The future rests in the Old Republic, and the future is bright.
Before the release of
World of Warcraft, the game that everyone was talking about was
Star Wars Galaxies. Due to the strength of their online portfolio, Sony Online Entertainment had attained the rights to the
Star Wars IP, and even the Blizzard developers had to believe that Star Wars was arguably the most powerful intellectual property in the world. However,
Star Wars Galaxies was disappointing in its execution, and those millions of potential MMOG players opted to play in Azeroth rather than on the varied planets of the
Star Wars universe.
However, the
Star Wars IP is immense. While
Star Wars Galaxies covered the lore and history of the time period during Episodes IV-VI (the original trilogy), the expanded
Star Wars universe goes far beyond those limited confines. That's where Bioware enters the picture. After their phenomenally successful
Knights of the Old Republic series, most fans were eager to continue playing in the worlds of the Old Republic.
And now they have their wish. Bioware and LucasArts have revealed that their upcoming MMOG will be titled
Star Wars: The Old Republic. While the details are still coming in, it's safe to assume that players will be spending thousands of hours in this epic time period in the
Star Wars expanded universe roaming around the galaxy encompassed by the Old Republic. Keep your eyes focused on Ten Ton Hammer to learn all the various details about
SW: TOR straight from the mouths of the
Star Wars: The Old Republic developers!
