We continue our Scenario Guides with a look at the Tier 3 Scenario: High Pass Cemetery. By now you should be comfortable with your Class, and pretty much know your role in most instances. You just need a few tips and tricks to give you that edge needed for victory. Well, no worries, Ten Ton Hammer has you covered.

Basic Strategy

At its heart, High Pass Cemetery is simply a two part King of The Hill Scenario. There are two Capture Points (tombs) across from each other. One is The Stag, and the other is The Crypt. Your job is to capture and secure first one, and then the other. Your enemy is trying to do the same thing. Unlike most Scenarios that puts each side near one of the capture points and have you fight to take the opposite, High Pass Cemetery places both capture points an equal distance from each team. You just have to run up, click on the tomb without taking damage for 3 seconds, then run across the cemetery and do the same thing again. You get points by controlling both Capture Points (one alone does nothing), and points for every enemy player killed (the Capture Points will reset a few seconds after either side controls both of them). The first to 500 wins, with a 15 minute time limit. How tough can that be? Well, keep reading and find out.

Tip: Any time you control both points, your side gets a small damage buff. Use this to rack up easy player kills while waiting for the Capture Points to reset.

You can see on the map that both sides start an equal distance away from both Capture Points. You have 3 ways you can leave the spawn area, so make sure you are working with your team and know what's going on. You can use the side gates to flank your enemy and sneak up without them realizing it.

Tips & Tricks

Communication : This is one of those Scenarios where communication is key to victory. You can't just run out there and charge an objective; you have to take AND hold two objectives at the same time. Your enemy is trying to do the exact same thing, at the same time. Communication is the one thing that can really give your side an edge in this Scenario. Decide which objective everyone will assault first. With everyone together, capture one point, then decide who will defend the objective and who will assault the second. You should leave at least three people to defend the objective, as everyone else pushes to the second. Without communication, this will quickly fall apart, and your side will lose easily. With no communication, your chances for victory is about as good as a gobbo reading Shakespeare.

Tip: Remember to apply any Damage Over Time attacks you have on anyone near the Capture Point, this keeps them from taking it if you miss an attack, or are knocked back.

Both Capture Points Taken

Defense : After taking your first Capture Point, it's your job to hold it. Keep your eyes open and be ready to call for support if a large force moves to take the objective. Stay very close to the Capture Point, stealth players love to try and sneak up on the objective and grab it from under you. You have precious few seconds to hit them once they show themselves as they start taking the objective, so stay close. Don't get pulled away from the Capture Point as that your enemy will often send in a couple of Tanks to draw everyone's attention while they slip in behind you and grab the objective. You job is to guard the Capture Point, killing players is secondary. It doesn't matter how many kills you have. If you lose the Capture Points over and over again, you will lose.

Tip: Have Macros set up to yell for help, something like, "Our Flag is Under Attack!" to quickly call for help if you are being overrun. Dwarf macros tend to be, "My ale mug is empty!" or "My favorite group is ZZ Top!"

Offense : After taking your first Capture Point, move directly across the cemetery towards the second. Tanks and Melee DPS up front, with support from behind. Use this as a distraction and send a small group to the side and flank the enemy position. Remember the objective is to click on the Tomb, that's how you win; killing the enemy players is just the icing on the cake. Everyone should always be pushing to the objective, using knockbacks and snares to give your team time to take the Capture Point. Make sure that Tanks have Guard up on the healers at all times, so healers can withstand any attacks on them to allow them to do their job - keeping the other group members up and fighting!

Tip: Use your stealth classes to flank the enemy and come up behind the objective. Often times they can take the objective without your enemy ever realizing they were there. On the flip side, keep an eye out for Witch Elves or Witch Hunters prowling up to the objective and trying to "ninja" the tombs.

Class Roles

Tanks : Your role in High Pass Cemetery is to harass your enemy. Tie them up and slow them down so your stealth classes can sneak in and capture the objective. Make sure to put Guard on your healers or other squishy classes, and drive forward. Of course if you get an opportunity to capture the objective, take it, but your primary job is to keep the enemy busy concentrating on you and not the objective. Remember, unless one side controls both Capture Points, it's a stalemate.

Overview of Cemetery

Melee DPS : Your role varies in High Pass Cemetery depending on which role you are playing. If you are playing defense, stay right on top of your objective and bring the pain to anyone who gets too close. Your damage output, plus your ability to take a hit, makes you perfect for stopping anyone from taking the objective. Remember to use Damage Over Time, as much as possible, it's the best way to ensure the Point stays in your side's control. If you are playing offense, use roots and snares to slow the enemy giving your side a chance to take the objective. Use knockbacks to clear the Capture Point of enemies if they are standing on top of them. If you have stealth, look to flank the enemy, and watch for your Tanks to draw their attention, then sneak in and try to grab the Capture Point.

Ranged DPS : Your role varies in High Pass Cemetery depending on which role you are playing. If you are playing defense, stay a bit near the objective, and use Damage Over Time as much as possible. Use knockbacks to keep enemies off the objective. Use roots and snares to slow them down so your teammates can jump on them before they get to the Capture Point. If you are on offense, stay back and concentrate on anyone near the Objective. The more confusion caused around the enemy Capture Point, the better chance your side has of sneaking up and taking it. Remember to use terrain to your advantage, the fence along the cemetery provides line of sight to your enemies while preventing Tanks from hitting your without running all the way around it.

Healer:If you are playing defense, stay near your Ranged DPS. This way you can heal anyone taking too much damage near your objective. Use any DOTs you have to interrupt anyone trying to take the Capture Point. If you are on offense, you must pay close attention to your Tanks. The longer they are standing, the better the chance of getting the enemy to pay attention to them instead of your stealth players. Remember to use terrain to your advantage. The fence along the cemetery provides line of sight to your enemies while preventing Tanks from hitting your without running all the way around it.

Summary

The main key to success in High Pass Cemetery is communication. Whichever side is communicating and working as a team will almost always win this Scenario. If you're guarding your objective, stay close, and don't get impatient. As you are getting more familiar with Scenarios, you should start using terrain and macros more and more to help advance your game. Use the routes to your advantage, and keep looking around. If you are by yourself, you are doing something wrong (unless you have stealth, in which case you are doing something right).
