Week 2

As you open your Tome of Knowledge today, you may notice the new guitar riff that pours out from the Live Event tab. Heavy Metal has begun, and a call to arms has gone out to every member of the realms. The two week long event requires a daily commitment from each Warhammer Online player that hopes to earn the great rewards the Tome of Knowledge promises. At a Basic level, a new trophy can hang from  your belt, showing your dedication to all who pass by. The Advanced reward is a spectacular new cloak, attainable only during the event.  The Elite reward is the ultimate prize: a chest that holds the secrets to training as a Black Guard or Knight of the Burning Sun, long before the classes are opened to the masses.

Ten Ton Hammer will be there every step of the way, updating this daily journal with the tasks as the Tome of Knowledge assigns them. Tune in each day to keep track of our quest to successfully complete the Heavy Metal Live Event.

Order
The front lines of Order's righteous struggle against the malign forces of Destruction will soon be bolstered by the Knights of the Blazing Sun! The Knights, called from all corners of the Empire to perform their duty, will gather together in numbers never seen before! As elite warriors, expert tacticians, and brave templars of the goddess Myrmidia, the Knights of the Blazing Sun are dedicated to claiming complete victory over Chaos and its allies! Do your part to ensure their success! The Empire's survival depends upon your contribution.

Destruction
Our pathetic foes teeter upon the edge of a precipice. Only a nudge is required to send these enemies to their final, pitiable doom. The mighty Black Guard of Malekith has conquered the Elven lands of Yvresse and Cothique, and now moves rapidly to join in the main invasion. Within a fortnight, Order's defeat will be all but assured by their arrival. The Dark Elves that serve within this elite cadre are fearless and driven to victory by their all-consuming hatred of their enemies. The purity of a Black Guard's hate, combined with his mastery of arms and armor, will herald out inevitable conquest of the entire world. Triumph is not without price. Dedicate yourself to Change, for there is no greater purpose.

November 24th, 2008: Defeat 15 Enemy Players in Open RvR

Here we go! It's time to spill the blood of the enemies of Sigmar in great numbers. I must find and destroy 15 Destruction members in open combat. This is what my training is all about.

First I must find where the enemy is hiding. Destruction holds a nearby Keep, and I have made it my mission to throw them out and establish my Order family in their place. Teaming up with a large number of my peers, we saddle up and ride out to fight. There is nothing more satisfying then finding myself in the middle of a furious battle, working together with my warband to win the day.

My task today was easily completed, with the blood of my enemies staining the pages of my Tome of Knowledge.

November 25th - December 1st, 2008: Multi-tasking!

What a surprise! Today my Tome of Knowledge posted all of the remaining tasks for the Heavy Metal Live Event. It looks like I can complete these in whichever order I choose. I can even skip a day here or there, and double up on the quest completions later. Here is the list of the remaining missions:

  • Kill 10 Factory Chickens in the Reikland Factory Scenario
  • Kill 20 Undead
  • Detonate the Steam Tank Ammo in the Reikland Factory Scenario
  • Complete 5 Quests
  • Throw 5 Gaffer's Gravybombs at Enemy Players in the Reikland Factory Scenario
  • Complete 3 Stages of a Public Quest
  • Have your Realm eat the Famous Factory Sandwich in the Reikland Factory Scenario

Very interesting. I must admit I'm fascinated by the Gravybombs and Sandwich tasks. What could that mean?

I decided to begin with the easier tasks on the list. I traveled back to Nordland to my old stomping grounds. Jumping off the War Camp plateau, I ran west to my old favorite Public Quest, The Burning Windmill. I easily worked my way through the 3 stages, happily killing the Chaos magic users, and their minions. One task done, and already I can see that I've earned the Herald's Cloak! Picking up that prize will have to wait, though.

I notice another task that calls for me to kill 20 Undead. I happen to know of a great little spot here in Nordland, where I should be able to rack up the kills fairly quickly. Following the road south, I make a turn to the west and run past the Grimmenhagen Windmill. Built into the mountains nearby is a crypt filled with Sigmundi Spirits. The Grimmenhagen Barrows is full of the restless undead, and I happily watch my Tome mark off the kills. I ran into a friendly Witch Hunter in the area, and together we worked to dispatch the Spirits with ease, sharing credit for every kill.

One more for today, and then it's off to Altdorf to get my new cloak! Completing 5 quests should be simple enough. I have several traveling quests left over that I hadn't finished yet. I visit the nearest Flight Master and make a few short trips, handing messages to various officers, and introducing myself to others. One other man in High Pass asked me to kill 10 Beastmen for him. Bam! My fifth quest is finished! Another task in my Tome of Knowledge is completed.

Oh, And of course I picked up my new cloak from the Herald in Altdorf. There were 4 to choose from, each for a different rank. Thinking ahead, I grab the rank 35 cloak. I better get to leveling!
