The Witch Elf RvR Guide:

Part 3

We continue our guide on RvR with the Witch Elf, picking up where we left off in Part 2. In Part 3, we will take a closer look at the three Mastery Paths and their affect on the Witch Elf in Tier 3.

Overview

You've survived Tier 2 and are now entering Tier 3. You've left a countless number of dead bodies in your wake, making the name of Witch Elf instill fear deep within the souls of your enemies. So, what can you expect in Tier 3? You will continue to be a ruthless, damage-inflicting machine, but now you must begin to really use your head. Your enemies have more abilities and will, if they're any good, begin to work together much better than they had in the past. Your chosen Path will dictate your fighting style and your tactics. First, we'll look at the individual Paths in Tier 3.

Mastery Path

As stated in the earlier article, the three Paths are the Path of Carnage, the Path of Suffering, and the Path of Treachery. In Tier 3, you will begin to receive Mastery Points much faster than in Tier 2. At rank 21, you begin to receive a Mastery Point at each level. Spend them as soon as you get them!

The Path of Carnage

This Path of toe-to-toe combat affects the following abilities: Slice, Vehement Blades, Ruthless Assault, Kiss of Agony, and Sever Limb. As your Mastery Paths increases, so do the five basic abilities increase as well. At rank 22, you will get Elixir of Insane Power. This ability is a must! For 7 seconds, all your attacks ignore the target's armor. Very handy when you're trying to make sushi out of that darn Ironbreaker. At rank 25, you can get the Broad Severing tactic which allows your Sever Limb ability to hit all opponents within 20 feet of you. This tactic can be useful, but it will take up one of your precious tactics slots. There are other tactics which are more useful on a consistent basis, but the ability to disarm all foes for 5 seconds is a powerful one. At rank 28 (if you've gotten all the previous abilities on the Path), you can get the Pierce Armor ailment. Again, this ability is a must have. You hit the target for a nice chunk of damage while ignoring their armor. In addition, if they are suffering from an ailment (which you can inflict on them using Heart Render Toxin or by Pierce Armor after the cooldown), then their armor will be reduced for 20 seconds! Stabbie, stabbie time! Finally, at rank 31, you can get the Swift Blades tactic, which adds 10% to your chance to parry. This tactic can be a great combo along with the Broad Severing tactic. As in Tier 2, this Path is designed to inflict as much possible as quickly as possible upon your pitiful foes.

Tip: It costs you a point to buy any ability or tactic in Mastery Paths. Not only must you fill the Mastery Bar past the ability, but then you must also spend a point to get the ability.

The Path of Suffering

This path, specializing in poisons and weakening effects, continues to inflict toxic ruin on your foes. The five abilities associated with this Path are: Enfeebling Strike, Envenomed Blade, Heart Render Toxin, Wracking Pains (which you receive at rank 25), and Kiss of Death. You can get the Elixir of Blades ability at rank 22. This ability lasts for 7 seconds, and every time you are hit by an enemy during that time, they take damage! At rank 25, you can get the Septic Blade tactic. This tactic reduces your opponent's chance to crit you by 25% if they are affected by your Envenomed Blade. At rank 28, you can buy the Black Lotus Blade ailment. This ability inflicts a nice bit of damage, plus it makes any heals on them 50% less effective for the next 10 seconds. This ability can be extremely useful in that your foes will probably have a lot of healing being spammed on them. At rank 31, you can get the Healer's Bane tactic. This tactic allows each of your Path of Suffering attacks to have a 25% chance to reduce your opponent's healing. This Path becomes very interesting in Tier 3. Normally, you'll be fighting in groups and your opponents will normally have healers spamming away. While on this Path, you can inflict some nice damage, but you also can severely curtail their healing, allowing you to kill them more quickly.

The Path of Treachery

This most difficult of Paths continues to emphasize sneak attacks and positional combat. The abilities associated with this Path are: Agonizing Wound, Throat Slitter (which you receive at rank 16), Puncture (which you receive at rank 28), Kiss of Betrayal (which you receive at rank 35), and Treacherous Assault (which you receive at rank 30). At rank 22, you can buy the Elixir of the Cauldron, which gives you a chance to disrupt enemy magic for the duration of the elixir. At rank 25, you can purchase the Baneful Touch tactic. This tactic allows you to steal action points, a 25% chance, if you attack from the sides or rear of an opponent. A useful ability, if you attack from the side or rear. At rank 28, you can buy the Heart Seeker ability. This ability is awesome if you can use it. Your target must be facing away from you, and if they are, you hit for a nice bit of damage and stun them for 3 seconds. At rank 31, you can get the Masterful Treachery tactic. This tactic gives you a damage boost for a few seconds after you hit your foe with Treacherous Asault, Vehement Blades, or Enfeebling Strike. This Path can be murder for enemy spellcasters, provided you can get the jump on them. Once combat begins, it is very hard to maintain a rear or side position on an opponent. However, if you're able to sneak up on the enemy spellcasters undetected, you can wreak havoc. This Path is much more difficult to master compared to the Paths of Carnage or Suffering.

In the second part of our article on Tier 3, we'll examine the core abilities and tactics that you receive in Tier 3 along with strategy and tips to help you slay all those foolish enough to oppose the the will of Khaine.
