The Past Week in Warhammer Online
November 30th - December 6th, 2008

News

It Was a Dark and Stormy Knight
A rumble was heard throughout the Warhammer Online lands on Tuesday, as thousands stampeded the Dark Elf and Empire starting areas. For those who had completed the Heavy Metal event the week before, the two new classes were unlocked and readied for new character creation. Reports from Narthain Beach and Grimmenhagen Village confirmed that the areas were flooded with new people. And you thought the Praag open battles were choked with lag...

Brasse expressed the mood perfectly in her comic:
Begun, the Clone Wars Have. For those of you that have yet to experience the rush of creating your own Knight or Black Guard, I have one bit of advice for you: use Armor Dyes early and often.

The hype around the new classes continued with Mythic Entertainment releasing more chapters from their ongoing fiction series.
The Sword is Forged Chapter 3 sees Knight of the Burning Sun Regina leading a small group in an effort to rescue a group of slaves from the wretched Marauders. The Black Guard story continues in Cruel as Ice, Cold as Steel Chapter 2, as Rathann takes the Dragon Oath.

Three Times the Fun
Game
Update 1.0.6 ushered in the new classes, but they were just a very small part of the content. In fact, there was so much packed in to this Update that it wouldn't all fit in just one news posting. Parts 1 and 2 of the notes were posted on Tuesday, followed shortly by an expanded Part 3. What did this Game Update contain? Changes to 9 classes were extreme enough for their Mastery and Renown points to be reset. Every class had wide ranging ability changes. Murderballs and flags will not pop at the beginning of scenarios anymore, giving time for both sides to arrive at the spawn in force. The list goes on and on. Do yourself a favor and read through all the notes yourself.

You'll notice in the Game Update patch notes that a significant amount of attention was given to RvR, including the way that zone control is calculated. A new game client was released that aimed to improve the performance in the heavily populated RvR encounters. Friday saw more downtime as additional coding work hoped to end the crashes. A long held suspicion that RvR contribution was just plain broken was confirmed by Paul Barnett, and you can see the admission in his video.

On the Test Track
With Game Update 1.0.6 moving to Live, the Test Server needed a little sprucing up. Patch 1.1.0 arrived for testing, with the server once again opened to all WAR subscribers. Load up the testpatch.exe file to get a preview of what will be moving to Live sometime this month. Item linking? Done. Main Assist mechanic? Done. Statues in the main cities tagged with the names of the Best of the Best? Done. Easier PQs, RvR Influence system, more Gold Bags and much, much more are all up for review.

A Little of This, and a Little of That
The Warhammer Online Community team grew this week. Jess Folsom has moved over from NCsoft to serve as a new Community Coordinator with Mythic. Welcome, Jess!

City Dungeons are getting some much needed attention. The theme of the changes is loot: more loot, bigger loot and better loot! Pack up a few of your friends, and take a trip into the darker areas of your local City for a special adventure.

As Ten Ton Hammer's self-professed Rambo Kitty, I have to make special mention of another of Brasse' Comics. Her look at the Heavy Metal Froofy Quests left me giggling, and not just at the appearance of her special guest. A future WAR race, perhaps?

Tip of the Week

Every point of the Wounds equals 10 points of Health. So next time you're deciding which gear pieces to choose, make sure to watch for the wounds stat: it could mean the difference between life and death!

To keep track of all your stats, open your character window. Just below your name you will find a drop down menu that will let you choose between Stats, Defense, Melee, Ranged and Magic.

Ten Ton Hammer Works For You

Warhammer Online is a game that admittedly is focused on RvR, or Player versus Player combat. For those that cringe at the thought of fighting other real people, Ten Ton Hammer's Brokain has just the thing for you. In his Secrets to Ultimate Pwnage - The Black Orc and Shaman, even a dedicated Care Bear will learn what it takes to succeed, Destruction-style.

You have a few jobs in RvR, first and foremost being to hit stuff and by "stuff", I mean whoever is beating on your healer. The healer will then in turn shower you with affection and by "affection", I mean heals.

Ten Ton Hammer never sleeps, as the following articles prove. Check out the latest in our ever growing collection of guides, interviews and more!

Forum Fun

The hot bed of the Warhammer Online Community can be found right here in our forums. This week, your fellow players talked the most about:

Special mention goes to our featured thread from Da Threadz Wot is WAAAGH! forum, where all the conversations that get a little heated or off topic are laid to rest. In Subscription Ran Out. Uninstalling, one poor poster hoped to share his woes of leaving a game he wants to love. As the conversation devolves, RadarX runs in to try and save us all.

I have no issues with anyone discussing current issues they have with WAR but could we PLEASE keep WoW out of it for just one thread and avoid the rush of defense from it's fans? Thanks!
