Runeforge

Welcome back. The last we left we had just finished off the Beryl area outside of Amber Ledge. We’re now going to visit Amber Ledge which will serve as our introduction to Dalaran and the Kirin Tor. The location is simple. You should have visited before to get the flight point. If you’re unsure then refer to the map below that shows the location flat out. Just go there and let’s begin.

img

Amber Ledge on a PvP server is a dangerous area because it’s the flight hub for both factions to get to Coldarra. So you may experience a good bit of PvP traffic through the area. There are a lot of reagent vendors here and crafting vendors, so if you need supplies then this a good place for you to resupply at. In my adventures through it I knew I was ganked well over 5-10 times from level 80s so I suggest you have your ears perked for danger.

First things first – quests. You should have Too Close for Comfort. Turn it in and get Prison Break and Monitoring the Rift: Cleftcliff Anomaly. This series of quests is very simple and very easy and will open up Coldarra for you. Begin by going to 43,38 (not far from Amber Ledge, just down the hill) and killing Beryl Mage Hunters until you get a key. I got mine on the first kill. Then let one prisoner go. Simple, easy, and fast.

img

The dragons and humans are the ones you want to target for Prison Break.

img

This is the cube you'll want to unlock.

img

Once you see this you're done.

Continue to 40,40 or somewhere along there to find a ramp down into the water. Go to 34,42 which is the “A” in Coldarra and it’ll show up as a glowing purple T on your mini-map and your screen. Use the Arcanometer on it and you’ll be done. Return to Amber Ledge to get your next quests.

img

This spot hosts many of the ramps downward.

img

This is where you need to be to use the item.

img

While using the time you shouldn't have to worry about aggro. Once you're done, you're free to move out.

You’ll get the quests Abduction and Monitoring the Rift: Sundered Chasm. Go to 47,29 and be careful hoping down the cliffs. In the water is a glowing purple rift of which is your goal. Swim down, use the Arcanometer again and then head back to the Beryl Ledge. You should have water breathing from the guy so it shouldn’t be a problem.

img

This is the ramp downward. From here the area is right below.

img

This is the area you'll want to be at to use the Arcanometer a second time.

Back the Beryl Ledge find a Beryl Sorcerer, get him low, and use the bindings on him. Return back to Amber Ledge. This is where things get interesting.

img

When its health is low use the item. It'll be displayed as seen in the above screen shot "Beryl Sorcerer can now be captured."

img

This is the animation that will play with the sorcerer captured.

Turn in your quests and get Monitoring the Rift: Winterfin Cavern and The Borean Inquisition. Go turn in the Borean Inquistion in the tower and then you’ll get “The Art of Persuasion” which, yep that’s right, the quest that was put into the news for torturing a helpless NPC. You can choose not and have morality guide you but the way to Coldarra will be blocked for awhile. If you do choose to do evil then use your item a few times until he talks then turn in your quest. You’ll get Sharing Intelligence which will lead to A Race Against Time. Now you must kill Salran.

img

Seriously easy quest. Use the torture weapon provided to call victory for yourself.

Salran is at 42,39 and you’ll need to use an item to be able to even touch her. Use the item and fight her and on her death she’ll drop a box that has her broken key in it. If you’re lucky you can move in after someone else and get the box to get the key.

img

Looting the key is a breeze, so is the enemy you have to kill. Just make sure the area is clear beforehand.

Either way we’ll come back to here. Let’s go help our old pals at D.E.H.T.A.

We’re going to the Winterfin Camp which is outside of the Winterfin Cave and taking a quick detour to do the quest chain here. After the first few quests you’ll open up a vendor who will sell things in return for clams. The exchange rate is pretty poor for the time it takes you to farm clams at your current level but things like swim speed potions and underwater breathing may be worth it for their super cheap price of 5 clams which you’ll probably get from playing along. If you want to rush to Coldarra then you can skip this section and come back to it, but I suggest doing it now.

img

Yes that's the BlizzCon Murloc Suit. King Mrgl-Mrgl is a Human and will be offering a good deal of the quests in this chain.

Another thing, at least for me, was the pathing in the water here. As a Hunter my pet was constantly getting stuck places and things were evading. Try to fight as close to ground or on ground (even underwater) as possible and be ready to melee if necessary. The underwater parts are short so you shouldn’t have too much trouble with them.

Go to 43,13 and you’ll see a guy in a Murloc suit who is from D.E.H.T.A. He’ll ramble about teaching you to speak to Murlocs so oblige him and take his first quest, Learning to Communicate. Go down in the water west of him straight down and kill Scalder. There is no way to miss him. He’s a simple water elemental. Once he’s dead fill the conch and return to the king.

img

A VERY easy to fight enemy.

img

Use the Conch when you're done.

You’ll need clams now which are on the other side of the river. Just go across (head towards 41,15) is where you’ll find clams. They’re on the murlocs and on the ground. Continue to 41,18 or the entrance of a cave where you can use your Arcanometer to finish a previous quest.

img

Arcanometer time. This is about as far into the cave as you need to go to use it.

Once you have enough clams return back to get Them! And Oh Noes, the Tadpoles! Again go across the river and open the cages with the tadpoles in them and kill 15 evil murlocs. Again, return to the other side of the river.

img

These are the clams you need on the ground. They also drop from Winterfin Murlocs.

img

Freeing the Tadpoles is easy. Just open the cages!

This time you should be given the quest “I’m Being Blackmailed By My Cleaner”. So go to 42,12 and talk to Mrmrglmr to get Grmmurggl Mrllggrl Glrggl!!! Yeah, the name is freaky, but the quest basically wants you to kill a massive orca. Another quest from Cleaver Bmurglbrm is to get orca meat for a stew. Both of these are done near the massive ice glaciers nearby. They roam so you’ll have to do a bit of looking, but they don’t roam past the nearby ice glaciers starting at 40,12.

img

There is Grgel waiting for you to slay him. Another easy enemy.

Well, with that out of the way return. Get The Spare Suit and then return to the king who will be glad. You’ll get your last quest here which is “Surrender… Not”. Remember the cave from earlier? You probably went in it a little to get some tadpoles. No matter, put on your suit (in your inventory) and head across the lake inside of it.

Get the quest “The Keymaster” but not the escort (if offered, I only seen it once in the cave) then continue until you reach Claximus at the very end. Kill him and loot up (he’s easy) and then before heading back up the ramp continue on this bottom path to kill the Keymaster Urgmrgrl (again, easy). Turn in the keymaster and do the escort if it’s up otherwise return to the king. We’re done here. Get your rewards and return all the way back to Amber Ledge.

img

Quests can be had from this area. Get the keymaster one and do the easy escort on the way out.

img

Claximus is easy. Just DPS him down as fast as you can.

img

DO NOT forget to loot his claw.

img

Use your Murloc Suit to get up close to the Keymaster for a surprise attack.

At Amber Ledge get Reforging the Key and then talk the dragon to pick up Taking Wing. Go to Warmage Anzim, turn it in, and get Rescuing Evanor. An easy quest, just stand on the platform and wait to be teleported. Personally I was panicking because I figured I needed to help right, but instead I just got teleported away. When the teleport is done get the quest Dragonspeak which, at the dragon, will open the flight path to Coldarra and the next part of our guide.

img

Part of the red drake escort. This quest line is almost automatic free XP.

img

On the way to Coldarra do not panic. The bubble is just one of Dalaran's protected areas.

img

Once you see this screen then you've landed safely. Welcome to Coldarra!

You should now be a third of the way into level 71 if you’ve been following the guide and in total you should have spent less than 4-5 hours getting here. You probably should take a break by now. We’ve covered a lot and still have the entire area of Coldarra to go.
