Reading Savanja's recent "Best and Worst" article, I was struck with my own little JD-from-Scrubs-day-dreaming-sequence. I wondered what it must feel like to spend so much time making a game, pouring so much time and energy into it, and then to watch it struggle in its infancy due to any number of reasons.

Be it Warhammer's too many servers and not enough people, Age of Conan's lack of content, or even WoW's lack of noticing people who want more low to mid-game content, I think one thing's for certain. These developers are trying their best to make a fun and profitable game. But due to publishing deals, money-constraints, and any number of tiny issues, sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and launch... and if that doesn't go well?

You may end up calling it quits in the industry that you've spent so many years in, like our friend Gaute Godager did (as illustrated above). Making games, like any artwork, is about putting your heart and soul out there for the masses to tear apart. Sometimes they eat it up and clamor for more, but more often they chew it up and spit it out.
