4.0 – Spell Upgrades

4.1 Spell Qualities

Levels of Spells:

Apprentice I – Granted at Levels 1-50 automatically on spells
Apprentice II – Purchased from a merchant in Freeport of Qeynos (or Maj’Dul for the 50-60 ones).
Apprentice III – Crafted but generally considered low quality.
Apprentice IV – Crafted and generally a good choice to replace Adept Is if you can't get 'em.
Adept I – These are dropped from “Treasure Chests” from any encounter. They are also rewards for some Deserts of Flames quests.
Adept III – These are “mastercrafted” items requiring a rare and are made by Sages in the case of priests.
Master I – These are dropped by creatures in raid zones or instances, but rarely will drop on heroic encounters.
Master II – These are selected from a table of choices at levels 14, 24, 34, 44, 54, 64, and 75.

4.2 Finding Spell Upgrades

First thing to do is hit the broker! Unless you are level 56+ or don't level quickly, high end upgrades aren't as important but you want to make sure you are at least working with Adept 1. Transmuting has finally stabilized and for the most part you should be able to find most of your spells at a reasonable price.

What is better than a broker? Make friends with a Sage! I haven’t met many who wouldn’t make some Apprentice IV’s for the cost of some materials. You’ll also want to know them later on for Adept III’s.

Note: After level 50 you don’t get Apprentice I versions anymore and will need to purchase/find the spells.

4.3 What to Upgrade

Ok, maybe you are level 56+, level slow, or you just got lucky and picked up the rare you need. What should you upgrade? Part of this is going to depend on your playstyle. While not generally suited for it, more and more people solo with their Templars so first I’ll start with a group/raid order, then a solo order.

Group/Raid

  • Group Reactive
  • Single Target Reactive
  • Large Single Heal
  • Small Single Heal
  • Group Heal
  • Mitigation/Health Buff
  • Health/Melee Offensive Buff
  • Arcane Resist/Health Buff
  • Sanctuary (Deserts of Flame Spell)
  • Involuntary Healer Debuff
  • Physical Mitigation Debuff
  • Heal from Creature Death Debuff
  • Proc for heals and attack absorption spells (these are in the level 50-70 range)
  • Nukes
  • Everything else in any order

Solo

  • Single Target Reactive (Can’t fight if you’re dead)
  • Both Nukes
  • Large Single Heal
  • Encounter Wide Nuke
  • Small Single Heal
  • Health/Melee Offensive Buff
  • Mitigation/Health Buff
  • Arcane Resist/Health Buff
  • Physical Mitigation Debuff
  • Heal from Creature Death Debuff
  • Everything else in any order
