Overview

Above the vast continents of Norrath, float lush green islands of immense beauty. From a distance they appear serene and peaceful, but are occupied by dangerous creatures of unspeakable evil.   The Tenebrous Tangle zone is the lowest level zone within the Kingdom of Sky and is vastly different than anything you've ever experienced in Norrath.

One of the biggest differences you'll see is this zone isn't a solid mass of land for you to run about freely. The content of this zone is scattered about islands with very defined boundaries. The islands of this zone are:

  • Temple Grounds
  • Vultak Scavenging Site
  • Bixie Island
  • Ravasect Incusrion Point
  • Fear Tainted Isle
  • Gazer Isle
  • Hidden Refuge
  • Breeding Grounds

Each of these islands will provide different challenges in regards to soloing and/or grouping. Tenebrous Tangle is accessed through the spires in Commonlands or Antonica. Transportation between these island use a method similar to Deserts of Flame, except instead of carpets there are clouds, and instead of being optional, well it's not.

Minimum level:

There is no minimum level for this zone, but it is recommended for solo and groups between the levels of 50 and 60 depending on which portion of the zone you are in.

Zones Inside Tenebrous Tangle:

  • Sanctum of the Scaleborn - Located on the northwest side of the island of Temple Grounds, this dungeon is filled with Aviaks, Golems, and plenty of dying. Most creatures here are mobile making traditional camping neigh impossible. Your movement must be fluid, and speaking of that, go to the bathroom before you get started in there.

  • Temple of the Scale - Located on northern side of the island of Temple Grounds, this dungeon is filled with Drakes. Lots and lots of drakes. Designed with groups in mind, this zone actually has quite a bit of raid content on its lower levels. Enter with caution.

Quest Starters:

  • Collection quests:
    • Tenebrous Tangle Eye provides the ability to work on numerous collection quests.  You should be able to start and complete them by examining the glowing "?" symbols found on the ground.  Check out the Ten Ton Hammer Collection Guide for more info on collection quests in general.
  • Normal quests:
    • A Meeting with Grumglub:  This quest is begun by talking to Jabber Longwind next to the spires from Norrath. He will ask you to speak with Grumglub who is located behind a pillar just outside the gate (55, 213). He will ask you to collect jumpers (frogs) that are along the banks of the river. Completing this taste will allow you to begin the "Tasty Basket" quests.
    • Tasty Basket: A number of wicker baskets spawn along the river near the waterfall on the island of Temple Grounds. These baskets provide quests to kill tangleflies, swoop serpents, and deadly bloodblooms.
    • Draco Mortuus Vos Liberatio : Note - The reports I've read of this, is it requires a high level crafting ability.  This quest is started by talking to Sinephobis on Fear Tainted Island (-103, 870) and requires the Thulian language be done from Feerott.   It will first require you to collect the following bones which spawn randomly on the island and zone indicated:
      • A large Dragon Skull - Tenebrous Tangle - Isle of Ravasect
      • A set of Dragon Ribs - Bonemire - Halls of Fate Isle
      • A large Dragon-Bone Tail - Bonemire - Carcotoxic Stain
      • A set of Dragon Limbs - Bonemire - Drednever Crash Site
      • A set of Dragon-Bone Wings - Shattered Weir Isle
    • After this has been completed you will need to collect T7 rares of: Blue-Silver Sheet (mined), Perfect Osseus Lumber (from wood), Perfectly Cut Purple Geode (also mined), Strip of Supple Leather (trapping).  You will need to take these items to the forge in the Sanctum of the Scaleborn for the combine. After this you will be sent to Ravasect Isle to kill a level 70 ^^^.  After beating him and getting your quest update you will return to Sinephobis.  You will need to place 3 rods in 6 minutes.  One on Gazer Isle, Fear Tainted Isle, and Bixie Isle.  That isn't a lot of time so have fun.  After returning to Sinephobis he will spawn the Spririt of Do'Ellin who is a level 70 ^^^.  Sounds like a ton of work for a non Heritage quest but the reward is a nice waist item that has an added damage to offensive spells and provides a nice +20 wis/int.

Lore and Legend Quests Involving Tenebrous Tangle:

  • Drakota:  This quest begins by examining the stone bench on Temple Grounds island (-20, 174). You will receive a book which needs to be read to receive your quest.
  • Droag: This quest begins by examining the stone bench on Temple Grounds island (104, 14) near the Temple of Scale. You will receive a book which needs to be read to receive your quest.

Soloing Opportunities:

Around level 50-55:

  • You'll be hunting around the very crowded zone near the spires. You will kill enough Tangleflies, Swoop Serpents, and Deadly Bloodblooms to make yourself sick but it'll bring forth the experience. The island of Breeding Grounds is a good spot but you'll have difficulty getting past the creatures swarming around the cloud transports

Around level 55-60:

  • You'll be able to hunt some of the higher Aviaks on the Temple Grounds and some of the bugs on Ravvasect Incursion Point but as you get higher you'll either start making your way into Barren Sky or grouping up for the rest of the Tenebrous Tangle content.

Grouping Opportunities

Around level 50-55:

  • With a group, you won't find too much in the early 50's easily killable.  Your best be will probably be to clean out the higher level solo content much quicker.  There are few if any heroic creatures on the Temple Grounds but the 57ish Aviaks should provide a decent challenge (and by challenge I mean you're going to have to kill them to get to the cloud transports anyways)..

Around level 55-60:

  • If you have a group in the upper 50's and haven't done the Sanctorium of Scaleborn what are you waiting for? Go!  Other than that there is Fear Tainted Isle and for those who are looking for a large challenge Bixie Island.  Imagine the Honey Nut Cheerios Bee, but mutated, and really really angry.
