2.0 - Summoner / Necromancer Class Quests

Since necromancy is forbidden within the walls of Qeynos, you must either choose Freeport as your new home on the Isle of Refuge or become a Summoner in Qeynos, then complete the Qeynos-to-Freeport betrayal quest by the time you turn level 17. Here is the path you must follow:

  • Level 1-9: Mage
  • Level 10-19: Summoner
  • Level 20+: Necromancer

2.1 - Becoming a Summoner

This quest allows mages to choose their class. Everything but the final part is the same for any mage, so ask your higher level mage friends if you get stuck. To begin the quest, see Arcanist Sonius at level 8, out front of the Academy building in North Freeport (loc: +16, -125).

First, descend into the sewers at (+19, -205) and collect 5 Useable Slimes from Thieves' Way- keep killing slimes until you get 5 updates, and return to Arcanist Sonius.

The next steps are to visit a series of NPCs.

  • Alchemist Aulus Crispian - The North Freeport Alchemy shop (Torlig's Herbs and Potions: loc -56, -70).
  • Molg - south Big Bend, near the Mariner's Bell (-15, +61)
  • Reana Astia - northeast Beggar's Court (-14, -38)
  • Skal Vethiz - southeast Scale Yard (-16, 34)

Next, return to Arcanist Sonius where he will ask you to choose your class. Choose carefully, as this decision is permanent, but if you're here- you've likely already chosen "Summoner." When you do so, Arcanist Sonius will send you to a special instanced area in the basement of the academy (take the floating elevator down). Read the spellbook on the podium, then double-click the highlightable items scattered around the room. Approach the carpet to spawn the elemental, then step back and make with the pwnage. Loot the remains, and take them back to Sonius. Congrats, at level 10 you'll become a Summoner: one step closer to Necromancer. You'll also get some nice rewards... tell them about the other prizes, Rod!

Academic Robe of Summoning
  • INT +3, STA +1, +3 vs Heat
  • Cloth Armor
  • Slot: Chest
  • AC 3 - 34 (max at level 15)
Arcanist's Ring of Summoning
  • AGI +3, INT +4
  • Slot: Left or Right Ring
  • AC 1-12 (max at level 15)

2.2 - Path of the Necromancer

Return to Arcanist Sonius at level 18 to begin the Necromancer subclass quest, who will direct you inside the Academy to talk to Camtur Flograttle. Your new gnomish friend wants you to travel to the northwest corner of the Commonlands (near Zarvonn's Tower and the Nektulos entrance) to kill a "strangely stitched zombie." If you can, group with other mages (sorcerors, enchanters, as well as summoners) who likewise need to kill this particular zombie. Search the area around the tower, and kill "tortured souls" which may help to spawn the zombie. When you've killed it, return to Flograttle for the final step of the quest.

When you tell Flograttle you're ready to begin, you'll be transported to the top of the tower (note that, like the summoner instance, you'll be soloing this tower). Work your way downward through the tower but be careful of a grouped duo of skeletons, one of which is hidden in the ceiling rafters. At one point you'll find a desk; examine it to find that the elixir is no longer there (you need to get this update). At the bottom of the tower, you’ll discover that the zombie, being a zombie, has come back to life! Kill it to get the elixir, then return to the top of the tower and zone out. Speak to Camtur again to finish the quest and get this fine reward:

Academy's Staff of Necromancy
  • INT +6, STR +4
  • 2H Staff
  • Damage: 10-30
  • Delay: 2.0
  • Slot: Primary

But better than a staff is the fact that you'll now become a necromancer at level 20! Enjoy playing one of the most unique classes in the game!
