3.0 - Methods & Techniques

3.1 - Upgrading Your Spells

Spells come ranked by quality, and I can't emphasize enough how important it is to upgrade your pet spells. At all times you should have an adept 1 or better pet (spell upgrades range from weak (apprentice) to mid-grade (adept) to high-quality (master) and roughly 4 sub-tiers within these ranks (e.g. Apprentice I to Apprentice IV). Necros don't have too much to bring to the battle except for their pets, so you should always have the best pet money can provide.

Your pet buffs and DoTs are the next most important spells to upgrade after the pet spells. All necromancers should be avid harvesters. Why? 1) You're good at it... necro pets can fight enemies while you harvest, and 2) You'll need all the spell component rares you can get to keep you in the best spells possible. Check out the TTH Harvesting Rares guide for details.

3.2 - Necromancer Spell Outline & Spell Progression

The following charts illustrate how your spells progress as you level up. Each is broken down roughly by the category of the spell, and spell "lines" are presented in ascending level order. Study these charts to get a good feel for you spells at your given level, and especially what pets and DoTs are your best fighting assets.
