Bree-Land Resource Gathering Guide

The Discerning Crafter: Bree-Land

Guide to Gathering Resources

By Darkgolem

Bree-Land is a outstanding place to gather resources, having tier 1, 2 and 3 resources available.  Only tier 3 resources (Rich Iron, Gold and Yew) are hard to find, everything else is easy to find.  Crops (found as opposed to grown) are the only resource not commonly found.  Almost all areas have little or no crops, the only exception being the Brandy Hills.

Of particular note for tier 2 resources are the Eastern Bree-Fields.  This area is a veritable cornucopia of hides, barrow iron, silver and yew.  Hardly anyone goes there, and moving from one end to another (in an east-west fashion) you can constantly gather these resources, easily gathering as much as you need in a short time.

For tier 1 resources, the best area is the Midgewater Marshes.  This area is full of copper, tin and rowan wood, though you will have to look other places for hides.  Light hides are best found in the Southern Bree-Fields, though there are plenty of places with enough animals of the appropriate difficulty to make finding light hides not a difficult task.

Overall, aside from the near absence of crops, Bree-Land is probably the best tier 1 and 2 resource gathering area in Lord of the Rings Online, centrally located and near lots of crafting areas.  Only the small number of farming areas (and the absence of high tier farming areas) make crafting a problem.

Buckland and The Old Forest:  This area is great for light and medium skins.  There are so many animals here, especially bears, that it is fairly easy to get all you need for medium skins.  You can also find scattered nodes of ore, some tier 1 and tier 2, in this area, but not enough to make it worth a special trip.  Also, sometimes you fill find that you note ore that is on the other side of a barrier or trees.  You can find crops in the old forest; strawberries, taters and cabbages, but hardly any, few enough to make it worth going other places for these sorts of things.  Rowan wood can be found here too, but in moderate quantities, and because of the many twisting paths, like ore, often it is out of reach even when visible on your radar.  There are no artifacts in Buckland or the Old Forest.

The Barrow Downs:  As expected, you can find a fair amount of Silver and Barrow Iron here, along with hides from the many barghests here.  Expect constant attack if you are the correct level for this area, however.  Ash is found in good quantities in the Barrow Downs, though of course the fighting makes it tiresome to collect it.  Unsurprisingly, there are no crops in the Barrow Downs.  There are very few artifacts in the Barrow Downs (which is odd), but those that are are tier 2.

The Brandy Hills:  The Brandy Hills are a great place to get ore and skins.  Copper and tin are common here, and the area is not heavy mined by most adventurers.  You can find medium skins here in great quantities with boars and bears.  Around 27.2S, 58.5W you can find bear dens with a lot of medium skins.  Rhubarb can be found in the Brandy Hills, as can yarrow root and strawberries in marginally large numbers.  Rowan grows a lot here, and you it's a good place to go for this wood if you are close by and have time for harvesting wood.  There are some ruins here, and rarely they will have tier 2 artifacts.

The Southern Bree-Fields: This area is a good source of light hides, from all the boars and bears there.  Ore is a little less plentiful, but you can find a moderate amount of copper and tin scattered about.  There are little to no crops found here.  There are quite a bit of rowan wood, scattered widely over this area if you are harvesting for woodworking.  There are some ruins on the far west portion of the Southern Bree-Fields which have a node or two, but that is all for artifacts (tier 1).

The Northern Bree-Fields:  You can find a little ore along the road heading to the Northern Bree-Fields from Bree-Tow, but overall it isn't worth the trip.  Conveniently, there are some forges at the Thornley Work Site along the way.  The ore you will find is silver and barrow-iron.  There are some light skins found here, especially around Snarling Hollow (which, as you might guess, contains a lot of wolves) along with a good number of medium hides.  Snarling Hollow can be found at 23.8S, 54.2W.  There is a node for tier 2 scholar resources at the Old Greenway Fort, near the southern portion of this area, east of the road.

Mining in the Far ChetwoodThe Eastern Bree-Fields:  There are a large number of both light and medium hides found here.  The entire area is replete with wolves, boars and bears.  In addition, the Eastern Bree-Fields have some ore, barrow iron and silver, in large quantities.  You basically will always have some sort of ore in your radar as you move around.  There are no crops to be found in the Eastern Bree-Fields, unfortunately.  However, this area is full of ash, an outstanding place to gather for woodworking.  There is only one tier 2 node in the Eastern Bree-Fields, at the ruins halfway across them (going east-west) on the north side, in some ruins near the river here.

Nen Harn:  Nen Harn is found in the far north eastern portion of the Bree-Land map.  A scattered area of islands on a huge lake, this is the highest level area of Bree-Land (though there are only a few quests here).  You can find rich iron here, but only in small quantities.  You can find yew in moderate quantities here, also, but not enough to justify a special trip to the area (you are better served heading to the lone lands).  There are no crops in Nen Harn.  No artifacts can be found in Nen Harn.

The Far Chetwood:  Awash with Crebain, there is a lot of fighting your going to have to be bothered with if you collect ore here.  However, you can find barrow iron and silver here in excellent quantities(better than the Barrow Downs, frankly).  Skins, unfortunately, are not found in any amounts here.. everything here is small or has no pelt.  Ashwood is found commonly here, but it is simply easier to go to the nearby Eastern Bree-Fields to collect it.  Crops are completely absent from the Far Chetwood.  There are no artifacts in the Far Chetwood.

North Chetwood: In the forest past Combe, you can find only small amounts of ore at all.  I suggest not bothering to go here for ore at all.  You can find light hides however, in moderate amounts, at the wolves den found at 27.7S, 45.8W.  Crops are (like much of Bree-Land) unavailable in the North Chetwood.  Rowan wood is available in fair amounts.  In the ruins of the woods outiside of Combe you can find an excellent amount of tier 1 scholar nodes.

The Midgewater Marshes:  This place seems to have a lot of copper and tin ore in it's northern reaches.  It's a great place to gather these resources if you happen to need these for your tier one blacksmithing.  There are no skins found here, all the creatures here do not have hides, making it poor for this sort of thing.  You cannot find crops in the Midgewater Marshes.  Rowan wood is plentiful, it is an excellent place to harvest rowan wood if your planning on woodworking.  The Midgewater Marshes are outstanding for artifacts.  Tier 1 artifacts are found in plenty at all the ruins here.

Resource Gathering in the Midgewater MarshesChetwood South: Excepting extremely widespread veins of copper and tin, you will find no ore in Chetwood south or Archet.  Light skins can be found in short quantity, but are present with boars and bears here.  There is rowan wood found here in abundance, some of the most common in all of Bree-Land.  Ost Baranor (near yellow tree) is a good place to get tier 1 artifacts.

Andrath: Andrath, located south on the Greenway, contains some moderate amounts of barrow iron and silver, though the Eastern Bree-Fields are better for that sort of thing.  You can get light skins here, in moderation, from the boars here.  You can find small amounts of ash in Andrath, but not in any quantities.  Andrath is one of the best place in all of Bree-land for artifacts (tier 2).  There are about 5 nodes, scattered among the many level 14 bandits here.
