Recapture Gnomeregan and Echo Isles!

In the days leading up to World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, both the expansion and the in-game event, players will be called on to retake Gnomeregan and the Echo Isles. Patch 3.3.3 will introduce a great deal of the content leading up to Cataclysm. Noone knows when the events will actually be implemented, just that the means to do so will be contained within the next patch.

Horde players will help Vol'jin take back the Echo Isles for the Trolls, while the Alliance will help gnomish King Mekkatorque to capture Gnomeregan. Each of these expeditions will involve a substantial and independent chain of quests. Early information indicates that there will be new flight routes through the areas around Gnomeregan and Echo Isles as well as potentially some new vehicles for users to play with.

There will also be an additional quest line involving the Twilight Cult that will reveal the cult's plans for Azeroth as they try to gain a foothold in the Capital Cities of Orgrimmar and Stormwind. Players must thwart the cult's plans, and in the process gain some experience with the new forces they will be contending with in the upcoming Catalysm expansion.

All this effort couldn't come without some kind of new and unique reward, and in their customary fashion Blizzard delivers. MMO-Champion.com found some files on a new type of item called an "Overcloak." This will grant the players a special emblazoned cloak, while retaining the stats of their other equipped cloak.

We don't yet know whether these faction designs are the only ones available or whether Blizzard has plans to allow customizable or Guild insignias on overcloaks, but that wouldn't be surprising.
