Sins of a Solar Spymaster #42: Tyrannis - Where's the Excitement?

Posted Tue, Apr 20, 2010 by The Mittani

EVE Online's newest expansion, Tyrannis, will launch next month and introduce the new Planetary Interaction (PI) system to the game. But with lag issues still plaguing the game from the Dominion launch and some players less than thrilled with the PI system, is the expansion ready to go? This week, The Mittani offers up his thoughts on the expansion and gives some advice to CCP on fixing a few things before it's too late.

Planetary interaction has shifted drastically from its original design pitch as a competitive minigame where players compete and employ mercenaries (via DUST) to seize and contest valuable planetary resources. What we are presently faced with is a completely noncompetitive instanced production interface - I won't go so far as to call it a 'minigame'. Any player can harvest materials from any planet, even if thousands of other players are harvesting from that same rock.
