Colin Johanson gives us an overview of Dynamic Events in Guild Wars 2 today with ArenaNet's latest blog update, "Dynamic Events Overview". The biggest part of this news is that they're going to be doing the storytelling by showing you the events instead of making you read about it. The example given highlights how you'll see the dragon attacking with the buildings on fire instead of reading a long brick of text and finding a dragon sitting somewhere. This is a really awesome thing.

I mean, how many times have you missed the story because quest text takes so long to read? Guild Wars: Factions starting doing a great job explaining the story through text blurbs as you played and GW has always done a great job with the cutscenes. I can only see this as becoming something that will separate GW2 from a lot of the other more traditional MMOs out there. Not to mention how your choices will make a major impact on how you experience the game. Forget about some mobs running around? Well, they'll have a base and be assaulting your towns if you let them sit and fester.

I can't wait to see this in action or more details on it soon.

For example, in a traditional MMO, the character who gives you a quest will tell you ogres are coming to destroy the character's home, and you need to kill them. You then get a quest which says, "Kill 0/10 ogres" and you proceed to kill a bunch of ogres standing around in a field picking daisies. Since every player in the game needs to be able to do this quest, the ogres will never actually threaten the character's home - they will just eternally pick daisies in the field. The ogres aren't actually doing what the quest says they are - the game is lying to you!

You can read about the details here on the official site.
