EVE Online Dev Blog Details Cause of UI Breaks

Posted Tue, Oct 19, 2010 by Martuk

EVE Online saw a few issues with its UI recently and this week CCP Zulu explains what exactly went wrong in the update that seemed to break a few things. In his latest developer blog, he details the code changes made to the EVE Online client and how a lot of problems arose with conflicting code on the front and back end of EVE Online. And while a lot has been fixed there are still a number of things left to do.

You may have noticed that we released a patch a couple of weeks ago that, well, broke a lot of things in the UI that we've since been madly trying to fix. There's been a fairly common response to this, which is (paraphrased) "OH GOD CCP WHAT ARE YOU DOING AAARGH" - which in the absence of any proper explanation from us, honestly seems pretty reasonable. However, we don't like it when our players are upset, so we figured, hey, now that everything's settled down and we have time to breathe, we should probably explain what just happened.

CCP Zulu goes on to explain why the changes were made and how it will help benefit the game more in the future. But he does offer up a warning that more turbulence is ahead because CCP will soon be moving the game's inventory service to 64-bit identifiers. So brace yourselves.
