Season Three brings new content and a chance to design the next Enterprise.

Star Trek Online (STO) is about to embark on a new season of content with Season Three: Genesis. Atari and Cryptic Studios today announced that the next content update for STO will launch on December 9th, 2010. Season Three: Genesis will send the new Foundry system, which will allow players to craft their own content and missions to share with others, into public beta.

There are a few other features scheduled to go live with the update that should make players happy. Episode Replay will allow players to replay every mission they've previously played with the chance to earn new rewards. And Borg technology will be able to be integrated into player ships to augment various aspects of the ship.

In addition to the announcement, players will have the opportunity to become part of the Star Trek canon by designing the next Enterprise starship. Cryptic and CBS are holding a contest to turn the design of the next Enterprise over to the players and they're offering some nice prizes to boot. The Grand Prize winner will receive a custom, STO-painted Alienware M11x laptop; STO Collector's Edition; STO Lifetime Membership; inclusion of design in STO; and a 3-D model of the winning design. Additional prizes will be granted to the second, third and fourth place winners as well as 21 honorable mention prizes. Check out the Enterprise contest page for all the details.
