Pew pew goes the children in Guild Wars 2 according to ArenaNet's latest blog post on Humanity. They now have snippets of sounds of Humans in GW2 on their blog and I must say I am blown away at the quality. Voice acting is rare in MMOGs and good voice acting is even more rare. GW2 is taking the cake in my opinion if the samples are actual sounds we'll hear throughout the game. I emplore all of you, GW2 fan or not, to go and have a listen to the richness and quality of the dialogue.
My name is John Ryan, and Im one of the writers on the Guild Wars 2 design team. Weve been working hard to make the world of Tyria a living, breathing place filled with amazing sights and terrific adventures. In this post, youll find a small sample of how were giving humanity a voice in Guild Wars 2.For us, voice plays a crucial part in establishing a world. Voice gives us the opportunity to tell stories with drama, humor, andmore importantlya realistic tone. If we can make the humans of Tyria look, act, and sound real while making it feel like youre humanitys champion in its darkest hour, then weve succeeded. Its a high bar, but its one we are committed to reaching.
Humanity has taken a beating in the two hundred fifty years between Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2. Theyve lost their homeland of Ascalon to their enemy, the charr, and they lost contact with the lands of Elona and Cantha after the rise of the dragons. Most of whats left of humanity has relocated to the opulent city of Divinitys Reach in Kryta. It is here you will start out as a human character.
As you can see (or if you visit the post hear) the sounds are amazing and in-depth and the voice actors seem to meld with the imagery presented. This makes me excited to think about the finished game and I can't wait to hear the "pew pews" and "lightening bolts" of GW2.
