With the coming of any new popular MMORPG comes the inevitable wave of scammers. Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR) fans are the latest targets of this band of merry misfits. In a recent post to the SWTOR forums, Senior Community Coordinator Allison Berryman posted a warning to players not to be taken in by a recent wave of sites and people claiming to be selling beta keys for SWTOR. Berryman emphasizes that these are in fact scams likely designed to steal personal information and that BioWare is not issuing testing keys beyond those outlined on the SWTOR website.

If a testing account is sold, Berryman notes that BioWare is quick to notice and since it's against the testing agreement are quick to ban the account. While it can sometimes be hard to wait for a chance to play a game that you're looking forward to, it's usually best to just be patient and not be taken in by a possible scam just to get an early peek that you may not get anyway and end up losing more than just a fradulent key
