City of Heroes Producer Offers Anniversary Update Address and Global Server Access Release Date

Nate "Second Measure" Birkholz has posted a new "Producer's Letter" with a special anniversary address to City of Heroes (CoH) players. With CoH celebrating its 7th anniversary with in-game events and developer meet and greets, Birkholz took the time to thank players for their loyalty and help making the game what it is today. But the story for CoH is far from over. In fact, Birkholz mentions the emerging storylines with new and future content all leading to a "Coming Storm” and that is one of those mysteries that players can look forward to as CoH moves into its 8th year of operation.

We view City of Heroes is as a storytelling medium. We have a lot of long-term plans for the main story, and all of these plans are intended to provide a backdrop for the stories you tell with your characters every day. The Incarnate storyline weaves into the Freedom Phalanx, Arachnos, and the Praetorian storyline, and they all lead to the "Coming Storm" we have been hinting at for a some time now. The Well of the Furies, the Menders, the Letter Writer - all of these entities have their own agendas, and their motives are currently unclear, but that will change and threads of these tales will be more tightly wound. The next year in particular already bears some true surprises, and your characters will become more important all the time.

Additionally, today's update also bears two other nuggets of news. The Praetorian invasion is coming to live servers and a new story posted today helps pave the way for things to come. Check it out and keep an eye on the CoH website in the coming days for more details.

Lastly, the long-awaited Global Server Access is coming next week. According to the official announcement, access will open on May 3rd, 2011 barring any issues. That date is subject to change, but for now, players can expect to have Global Server Access starting next week.
