Cross-Realm Real ID Dungeon Feature Coming to World of Warcraft

You know how it goes, you join Guild X and get to know players A, B and C. You have fun, you get gear and then, a year down the line the guild splits or your friends decide to try their luck on another server and you never really see them again. Sad, isn’t it? Yes you can still message your friends if they’re on Real ID and see which toons they’re playing and where but it’s not the same.

Blizzard has just announced their plans for a new premium World of Warcraft service that will allow players to invite their Real ID friends to do dungeons regardless of realm. How awesome is that? Yes, you’re gonna have to pay for the privilege but here’s what Blue Slorkuz has to say about the new feature.

With the continued popularity of the Dungeon Finder, many players have been asking for a way to group up with real-life friends who play on other realms to take on instances together. Today, we wanted to give you a heads up about a new feature currently in development that will allow players to invite Real ID friends of the same faction to a party regardless of the realm they play on, and then queue up for a 5-player regular or Heroic dungeon.

As this is a fairly complex service to develop, we don’t have a release date to share quite yet. It’s important to note that as with some of the other convenience- and connectivity-oriented features we offer, certain elements of the cross-realm Real ID party system will be premium-based, though only the player sending the invitations will need to have access to the premium service. We'll have more details to share with you as development progresses -- in the meantime, you may begin to see elements of the feature appear on the World of Warcraft PTR.

They must be out of their tiny money grabbing minds.

This sounds great right up until the part about it being a premium service.

Instead of continuing to add piles of individual paid services, they should just introduce a second subscription tier option that bundles it all together.
