If you’ve played RPGs for a while, you’ve undoubtedly encountered encumbrance mechanics at some point. This week’s Pathfinder Online update hits three points – item decay, loot and encumbrance.

With encumbrance, items collected will add their weight to your character. The numbers can vary based on the item, but each character will have an encumbrance threshold, and up to that point, you’ll be unaffected for carrying items. But once you cross that line, movement speed penalties will be added. If you manage to accumulate 150% of your threshold, you’ll be unable to move at all. Luckily, you can permanently increase your capacity by equipping new containers and temporarily through buffs.

The blog also touches on the mechanics behind looting and item decay. This includes what happens to items in your inventory if you should meet your untimely end. So expect the possibility of losing those precious items if you aren’t careful. On the upside, business should be good for crafters.
