Sony Online Entertainment has released two new segments of the Marv Wolfman penned backstory for PlanetSide 2 exploring the history of the game's three factions. The first two parts of PlanetSide 2’s backstory provides some insight into how each faction views the other and the escalating tension between the Terran Republic and New Conglomerate that sets the stage for the three-faction war to follow.

The Terran Republic, much like their original incarnation in PlanetSide are still a military group and referred to by the other factions as a dictatorship. The New Conglomerate is described as an offshoot of that group made up of mercenaries that broke off from the Terran Republic after they became stranded on Auraxis. Lastly, the Vanu Sovereignty is referred to as a cult that follows a belief in discovered alien technology of an alien known as Vanu.

Genny remembered her Sergeant’s words, drilled into her squad of new recruits. “You wanna know the difference between us an’ them,” he shouted. “Once those N.C. bastards landed on Auraxis, they came to the high ‘n’ mighty conclusion that the Terran Republic’s laws, which they had followed ‘til then, were suddenly incompatible with their own selfish needs. They could never accept that the laws were enacted to protect all the people, seein’ we were so many lightyears from home. Like always, those N.C. buttholes only thought about themselves an’ nobody else.”

Along with the faction story, you’ll also get to know a few characters that become key players in the escalating conflict. As the conflict continues to build a battle erupts on the island of Searhus and the war finally begins between the three sides.
