Whether you love them or hate them, addons will soon be a regular part of RIFT.

Earlier today RIFT Assistant Community Manager James "Elrar" Nichols broke the news that the first part of RIFT's addon API has been added to the Public Test Shard for initial testing.

While not much is known about how much flexibility the community will have with addons, Elrar notes that Trion remains committed to ensuring that the addons don't interfere with the stability and quality of gameplay or allow players to simply automate their play.

The addon on topic has been a hotly debated subject since beta but it appears that the option will soon be available to players to craft their own custom UIs and addons. At the heart of many arguments is Blizzard's allowance of excessive addons to World of Warcraft, which in the opinions of many simplified gameplay a little too much.
