SWTOR State of the Game - January 2013

Posted Wed, Jan 02, 2013 by Martuk

Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR) is kicking off the year with news of coming content and more changes. Executive Producer Jeff Hickman today posted his first State of the Game update for 2013 to discuss what players can expect to see in the coming months for SWTOR. In short, Hickman notes that players should see some changes to a certain “special PvP area” in 1.7, new elder game content by way of Flashpoints and Operations, new PvP areas, and world PvP options.

We have not forgotten Ilum! I think you will see (fairly soon) the answer to this question in the game itself - something big is coming to the Western Ice Shelf, but it’s quite a departure from what was there before. As for pure Open World PvP…well, that’s a more difficult proposition. We are dedicated to providing excellent PvP experiences to our players, but we intend to focus our energy on PvP Seasons and new Warzones. We will be experimenting with a different approach to Open World PvP, something that encourages organic PvP in contested areas in a new and interesting way, but do not look for massive new Open World PvP this year (outside of what I mentioned above). It is still on our design wall, but is taking a back seat to other forms of PvP.

Additionally, Hickman touched on the long-promised option of same gender romances. While Hickman reaffirmed that BioWare was supportive of the option, he explained that it may take some time still before it is ready but confirmed that it will be in the expansion. Unfortunately for players that were hoping to woo their companion characters, this option will be a bit more restricted.

Topic #4: Same Gender Romance: Any news on this front would be great… Answer: First of all, I want to apologize that this is taking so long to get in the game. I realize that we promised SGR to you guys and that many of you believed that this would be with a companion character. Unfortunately, this will take a lot more work than we realized at the time and it (like some other pieces of content we talked about earlier in the year) has been delayed as we focused on the changes required to take the game Free-to-Play. As we have said in the past, allowing same gender romance is something we are very supportive of.

Secondly, I want to reveal today that we are adding SGR with some NPCs on Makeb and do intend on pursuing more SGR options in the future. More details to come!

Seriously sgr wtf is that all about do they want to up the game ...........

How is that messing up the game? It's just yet another gameplay choice which you can choose to take advantage of or leave it.

Why well because there is enough of this shit in the real world without it intruding into gaming . ffs next they will want to get married as well and demanding equil stats ,special ships and clothing and so on and so on .......makes me wonder what the world is coming to ...or going : )this is star wars not gay wars

Wow, there are so many things wrong with your post, least of all the spelling and grammar.

Demands for equal stats, new ships and clothing: I got news for you, people are already asking for that, gay or not. Not a day goes by you won't read somewhere a request for an 'overpowered' class to be balanced, people asking for a certain type of ship to be added or a larger variety of armour. You essentially just said the game will be unaffected, and people will be behaving as normal, never mind the fact that your claim of a desire for special treatment is completely ridiculous to start with.

I think you need to learn some lessons in acceptance friend.

besttraveladvisories I admit with your Blog and I will be back to examine it more in the future so please keep up your work.

Good for you have corrected someones grammar and spelling on the internet -10xp points and a noddy badge for for all the rest of your post yeah sadly tis true ...but your use of the word friend mmm your friend i am not , look it up in that big word book im sure you keep handy for correcting people .but no matter whats posted here or or anywhere for that matter my view of the world and the wolrds i play in will always be an adam and eve one and not adam and steve ....

I didn't correct your spelling or grammar, merely made a passing comment on them. There is no need to get hostile, I'm just engaging you in a civilized conversation/debate. I called you friend as a gesture of peace as I have no desire to get into a name calling match.

We are all entitled to our opinions, but that doesn't make any of them the 'correct' opinion, so therefore isn't it better to allow options for everyone to choose, rather than based down to a certain groups personal beliefs?
If you don't agree with it, that's fine, then you don't have to use the same gender romance options and you will have no issue with it offending your beliefs. It's not like they are going to force you to make your characters partake in one or make you watch those of others, just as you in no way have to take or watch any opposite gender romance options if you do not wish to. Does it make it fair to deny people who would like to use those options the opportunity to do so just because you don't wish to use them yourself? In the end it is a virtual story to be played out as the player chooses and to restrict the options available to them is to tell them how to play their story out so that it is no longer theirs.

I'd also like to point out it is not called 'Straight Wars' either, and there is plenty of that in real life too. That's not considered an intrusion though.

Live and let live, everybody wins.

Well Well if you consider my comment hostile then your in worse shape than i thought - time to let go of all that political correct crap m8 and get back to basics . tbh i really couldnt give a ... what they do in the game i was just making a comment /opinion known .
I do live and let live untill it intrudes into my world . but thats not a debate for here and my views and opinions are my own as is everyones ,but that does not meen i have to just go with the flow many lemmings in the world as it is . it wont stop me from playing though.
oh and just by the by its not about beliefs at all, its about natures rules . and we all know what happens when we mess with natures rules but what the hell its not going to change my life so no need to get all bothered about it .also to say you called me a friend as a gesture of peace ???? why ? were we enemys or something i missed? either way its been fun but alas its a subject you and i will not solve ..well not here anyway and not in the real world either so we can just go about our mundain lives .nice chatting to you .if you had read the part about friend properly you may have caught the pun wars yoda speak as they say but you missed it .anyhow no worries .

I really don't understand racism in the real world. People are what people are, regardless of skin pigmentation or where their ancestors came from. There's really only one real-world race - the Human Race - and I loathe everyone equally.
