Ten Ton Hammer Video of the Day

Smoke and mirrors still effective for tricks

Would you volunteer to be a test subject for a Star Trek style transporter? That’s what a crowd of people at a mall in London, England believed they were being treated to when illusionist Scott Penrose showed up with a transporter pad to promote the DvD release of Star Trek: Into Darkness for U.K. TV streaming service Blinkbox. The crowd gathered around and watched as person after person stepped onto the transporter pad to vanish and seemingly rematerialize elsewhere in the mall. See if you can figure out how it works in today’s video.

Star Trek has been the inspiration for much of the technology design we see today ranging from our communicator style cell phones to the iPad-like pads used by members of the Star Trek: The Next Generation crew. The science fiction of Star Trek has in many ways become a reality. So it may interest you to know that the current work and experimentation on the Large Hadron Collider and Higgsbosson particle just might one day lead to an actual Star Trek style transporter. That is, if they can figure out how to put your atomized particles back together again.

Would you volunteer to be a test subject for a transporter experiment? Or do you think that Dr. McCoy had it right and choose to err on the side of caution?
