Wargaming.net has gotten a lot of use out of tech from middleware developer BigWorld for its “World of” series of games that include World of Tanks, World of Warships and World of Warplanes. And now the developer has cut out the middleman and purchased BigWorld for a cool $45 million according to a recent interview with Wargaming chief executive Victor Kislyi, who stated, “the acquisition is like many others where a publisher decides to acquire one of its suppliers of a critical tool so that it can stay in control of its own destiny

Kislyi explained that by purchasing BigWorld, the development process of future titles can now directly integrate the technology during internal development as well as lower development costs by having the firm in house. BigWorld will still continue to support its licensing business and customers following the acquisition.
