World of Tanks Announces Update 8.5

Posted Thu, Apr 04, 2013 by Martuk

Wargaming deployed Update 8.5 for World of Tanks to PTS today, adding new medium and light tanks to reinforce Soviet and German lines. But one of the bigger changes coming with the update is the newly added option for non-paying players to access certain premium features. With 8.5, non-paying players will be able to form 3-member platoons and companies as well as purchase premium consumables with silver credits.

On the content front, the German tech tree will receive a new line of iconic medium tanks, including the Tier X Leopard 1, an effective tank in both long-range and close combat situations. The Soviet tech tree will also be getting some love with three new light tanks: T-60, T-70 and the T-80.

Lastly, a new map is being added with Pearl River along with revamps for three other current maps: Siegfried Line, South Coast and Malinovka. Patch notes for the PTS build of 8.5 are available here.
