The second phase of the World of Warcraft: Cataclysm pre-cursor event, the “Elemental Invasion” as some have named it, has now begun. The Earthen Ring have started with their plan to calm the elements and examine the ancient tablets recovered from Northrend. It’s up to you to secure these strange artifacts and help subdue the elements while the Twilight Hammer works to stop you. “Tripping the Rifts” is still available in this phase, so be sure to get out there and start elemental hunting.

New Quests for the Alliance

The Alliance have an all new breadcrumb quest called “What’s Shaking in Ironforge” that leads you to Myrla for “Subduing the Elements.” It’s an unnecessary quest to complete if you know where you’re going, but it wouldn’t hurt to pick it up while doing “Tablets of the Earth.”

“Tablets of the Earth” is the Alliance only version of “Tablets of Fire.” It starts with Erunak Stonespeaker beside the bank in Stormwind. You can obtain this quest and “What’s Shaking in Ironforge” at the same time. After you obtain the quest move towards the docks where you’ll find Courier Tormun who will start a scripted event on your approach (assuming someone else has not started it). There is no need to interact with them; he’ll automatically start once you are within range. A Twilight Seeker will launch an attack at the courier and a “Mysterious Crystal” will spawn which gives you three abilities.

• Flame Jet: Kills Watery Elementals.
• Shockwave: Kills Earthern Elementals.
• Tidal Wave: Kills Blazing Elementals.

It is not a vehicle, but simply replaces the skills on your skill bar. About five waves of three elementals will spawn and attack the courier. Use the appropriate skill to destroy the elementals and claim victory. If you’re like me and can’t figure out which keys to press due to custom hotkeys, you can just spam the three of them. Only one skill will work on each elemental.

After the invading elementals have been dispatched loot the tablet then head towards Ironforge. You can turn this quest in at Belgrum in the Hall of Explorers.

The last new quest is “Subduing the Elements.” It’s kind of a time consuming quest due to the item cooldowns, but nothing too terrible. Speak with Stormcaller Myrla in the Commons in Ironforge. She’ll give you a bag and within it will be [Elemental Sapta] and a [Cleansing Totem]. Quaff the Elemental Sapta then walk around Ironforge using the Cleansing Totem on the ground to “subdue” twenty elementals and then return for your reward.

These are currently the only new quests and events happening in phase two of the Elemental Invasion. More is expected to come soon.

New Quests for the Horde

The Horde does not get a new breadcrumb quest but they have a little bit less foot work involved since all of their quests start and end with Earthmender Norsala outside of the Bank in Orgrimmar’s Valley of Strength. The first one is “Tablets of Fire” which is identical to the Alliance version, minus the trip to another capital city. Head outside and a little bit to the northwest to Rocktusk’s Farm and approach Durak Flamespeaker.

You do not need to interact with him as the scripted event will start at your approach. Five waves of three elementals will begin to exit out of portals while a “Mysterious Crystal” will spawn which will grant you three abilities:

• Flame Jet: Kills Watery Elementals.
• Shockwave: Kills Earthern Elementals.
• Tidal Wave: Kills Blazing Elementals.

Use the appropriate abilities on the appropriate elementals. The crystal is not a vehicle; it simply alters your skillbar to grant you three new abilities temporarily. You can spam all three abilities on each elemental if you want as only one will actually cast, if you’re having trouble with your hotkeys. When the event is finished loot the tablet and return to Earthmender Norsala for your reward.

The second quest is “Subduing the Elements.” Once again Earthmender Norsala offers the quest. You are given a bag with [Elemental Sapta] and a [Cleansing Totem] inside of it. Quaff the Sapta in order to see the elementals and then use the Cleansing Totem on the ground to “subdue” them. After you have subdued 20 Fire Spirits you can return to Norsala for your reward.

That’s all of the new quests in phase 2 for the Horde.

Achievements and Other Events

Nothing else has changed during Phase 2. [Tripping the Rifts] is still available, simply requiring you to gain a buff from each kind of rift in the world. Phase 3 which is speculated to begin in a week is rumored to finish the Twilight Hammer questline while Phase 4 will focus on ending the elemental invasion itself.
