WOW Hunter Glyphs

GLYPHS for HUNTERS

You may be just starting your journey into 5-man instances, plowing your way through Naxxramas, or exploring the unknowns of Uldaur.  No matter what you are doing, choosing the right glyphs to go with your spec is just as important as selecting the correct gems and enchants for your gear, and not doing so will be painfully obvious when reviewing the meters at the end of a raid.

Beast Mastery

  Glyph of Steady Shot
As a BM hunter Steady Shot makes up a large portion of your damage. That being the case boosting that damage by 10% is obviously a very, very good idea. Make sure you keep Serpent Sting up at all times in order to take the best advantage of this glyph and you will be sure to notice an improvement in your dps.

Glyph of Bestial Wrath
This glyph is a must have for any BM hunter. When you activate Bestial Wrath it not only increases your pets damage by 50%, but add in The Beast Within and you also get 10% added to your damage and your mana cost of all spells reduced by 20%. Now take 20 seconds off the cooldown, add Longevity, and you have nothing short of a BM hunters wet dream.

   Glyph of Serpent Sting
This glyph makes a lot of sense to have especially if you have Glyph of Steady Shot in place. The longer Serpent Sting is active, the time you have to use Steady Shot without wasting a cooldown period refreshing Serpent Sting. Having this glyph should easily buy you enough time to get off 2-3 extra Steady Shots, and we all know every extra shot counts.

Marksman

    Glyph of Serpent Sting
This may seem like a bad glyph choice as it only increases the duration of Serpent Sting, and MM hunters never have to reapply their stings thanks to Chimera Shot. However, Chimera Shot instantly deals 40% of the damage done by your Serpent Sting, 40% of the damage of a 21 second Serpent Sting is quite a bit higher then the damage of a 15 second Serpent Sting.

     Glyph of Kill Shot
Even without the Sniper Training ability of Suvival hunters, this is still a very useful glyph for Marksman, especially anticipating longer and longer boss fights that Ulduar and beyond present.

    Glyph of Chimera Shot
This glyph reduces the cooldown of Chimera Shot by 1 second. Chimera Shot being one of the prize shots of MM hunters makes it easy to see why reducing the cooldown of this would be a good thing. If you also choose to use the Serpent Sting glyph mentioned above it will further increase the usefulness of having this shot on a shorter cooldown.

Survival

  Glyph of Explosive shot
The reason for choosing this glyph is easy enough to see, as Explosive Shot is the choice shot for a Survival hunter and should be used at every cool down. Increasing the critical strike of the shot with this glyph is just a good idea and will give you the chance to do more damage every time you use it.

   Glyph of Kill Shot
As guilds move deeper and deeper into Uldaur bosses are progressively gaining more health. This of course means that bosses will be staying at 20% and lower for longer periods of time making Kill Shot something that you will want to be using. So it makes sense that you would want to use this glyph which will reduce the cool down from 15 seconds to a more reasonable 9 seconds. Survival hunters have another perk to using this glyph as they have Sniper Training which increases the critical strike chance of Kill Shot by 15%.

    Glyph of Serpent Sting
Survival hunters should use this glyphs for pretty much the same reasons listed for BM hunters above. The glyph increases the duration of Serpent Sting by 6 seconds allowing you to cast extra Steady Shots/Explosive Shots before having to reapply

You may have noticed by now that minor glyphs are mysteriously missing from the list. The truth is no matter what spec you choose your minor glyphs will be the same as the choices are very limited, only 6 compared to the 27 major glyphs available. Out of those 6 there are a few that stand out:

Glyph of Mend Pet
This glyph means that you never have to carry around food for your pet ever again. If your pet gets unhappy just Mend Pet!

   Glyph of Revive Pet
Useful for when your pet dies during a boss fight. The faster you can get your pet back up the more damage you and your pet can do.

Glyph of Feign Death
Like most dps classes hunters are constantly trying to push their damage to the next level. Being able to Feign Death more often means you should almost never pull the boss and bring the wrath of your raid leader down on you.

Remember, regardless of if you are killing General Gjarngrin in Halls of Lightning or finally getting that first kill of XT-002 Deconstructor, glyphs are an important enhancement to aid you on your journey through the World of Warcraft. As always in the end it is the player and what works for them that matters, so don't be afraid to  experiment because that is the key to being the best player you can be.
