We
finish our guide on how to solo the Priest by taking a look at levels
61 to 80. By this point, you should have a strong understanding of the
Priest’s abilities and talents, as well as what to use when.
You can now breeze through mobs with little to no down time, and have
the skills and abilities to take out multiple foes if needed. You
already have the majority of your class defining spells and talents,
and now you just need to tweak your build here and there to make those
last few levels fly by.
As in the previous two guides I will continue to tell you to put your
Talent points into the Shadow school. We will then branch out into
Discipline towards the end. There are many different builds out there
and arguments for each one, so feel free to experiment if you
don’t like my suggestions. This is simply the build I found
to work the best for me. We are talking about going solo
here, and Shadow is far and away the best solo school out there. If you
want to play a healing Priest, or a discipline Priest, you can respec
at 80 to do that.
Level 60 to 70
Let’s take a quick look at where to put our Talent points as
we level through the 60s. To start with go ahead and take Dispersion.
This Talent is a life saver when you are out of mana, by dispersing you
into pure energy, reducing all damage taken by 90%. You are unable to
attack or cast spells, but you regenerate 6% mana every sec. for 6 sec.
So when you are out of mana and getting pounded on, pop this and in a
few seconds you are laying out death and destruction again. Go back and
finish maxing out Twisted Faith, and grab Improved Shadow Form. At
level 67, we can now move into the Discipline school. Grab Twin
Discipline and keep putting points into here through level 70.

Your
spell rotation will not really change much from here on out. Open up
with Power Word: Shield, then cast Vampiric Touch, Mind Blast, Vampiric
Embrace, Shadow Word: Pain, Devouring Plague, and Mind Flay. If the mob
is still alive, just toggle between Mind Blast and Mind Flay until
dead. At 62 you will pick up Shadow Word: Death, which is a decent
finishing move. It does a lot of damage, but you have to be careful, if
you use it and it doesn’t kill the mob you will take the
damage as well. You won’t always need it, but it’s
nice when you have pulled more than one mob and need to finish one off
quickly. You also will pick up Shadow Fiend, which can be damn useful
when you pull too many mobs, or if you have to take a really nasty mob
down. It creates a shadowy fiend to attack your target and you receive
mana when the Shadowfiend deals damage. It can help keep a mob that
adds on you occupied while you finish off your target. Also use
Dispersion if you run out of mana and Psychic Scream if you pull too
many mobs. You should be a killing machine right now, with little to no
down time. Unless you mess up or just not paying attention, you should
have very few fights that are tough.

Level 70 to 80
As you level thru the 70s, continue down the Discipline
school. Finish maxing out Twin Disciplines, and then move to Improved
Power Word: Fortitude, and Improved Inner Fire. Once you have those
maxed take Meditation and Inner focus. Meditation is great and will
really help you in those last few levels by allowing you to continue to
regenerate mana while casting. Some people argue that you should go
pick this up before finishing off the Shadow school, and there are some
good points. Recharging mana all the time really helps with the down
time, however I always believe I want to hit as hard as I can first,
and kill the mob quickly before I worry about down time. Your mana
doesn’t recharge at all if you’re dead, so hit as
hard and as fast as you can!
Your spell rotation doesn’t really change at all the last leg
of your journey. You will still open up with Power Word:
Shield, then cast Vampiric Touch, Mind Blast, Vampiric Embrace, Shadow
Word: Pain, Devouring Plague, and Mind Flay. If the mob is still alive,
just toggle between Mind Blast and Mind Flay until dead. Follow the
same formula from 60 to 70. You will just plow through mobs even faster
as you get closer to 80.

This should take you to level 80 with little to no trouble at all. Just
remember the toughest part of playing a Priest is the first 30 levels
or so. It gets much easier as you go, and if you follow this guide and
take the Talents as I have laid them out, your life as a Priest should
be very easy. Now that you are 80, feel free to respec to one of the
other schools for groups or raids if you want.
Where to Level
When you get to level 60 you should head to Outland. To
get there head over to the Blasted Lands in Eastern Kingdoms. From
there walk through the portal and you will land in Outland.

When
you hit level 70 it’s time to head over to Northrend.
To get there head to The Undercity or Orgrimmar and take a zeppelin
over to
Northrend. The XP and rewards here are much greater than anywhere else,
so as
soon as you hit 70 drop what you are doing, and get over there.

Solo Priest Guide

I found this guide very useful. However I think it is in need of a revision. I compared the write up to the linked Shadow Priest talent build and it is close but not exact.
In the write up you are asking us to take Improved Shadowform in the Level 60 to 70 range. Improved Shadowform is not on the current talent build.
Just kind of a FYI or heads up.
Thank you again for a great write up.
