One of the most anticipated features that the World of Warcraft expansion: Warlords of Draenor will bring to the game are Garrisons. Players have long wanted player housing in World of Warcraft, all the way back to when the game was first released.
Now, nine years later, players will finally get their chance to own their own little slice of Draenor as we are allowed to create player housing in the new zones. In typical Blizzard fashion the addition of player housing is not just a place to hang your hat, they have added a whole lot more to it. What exactly are Garrisons and how will they work though, find out all about them here.
How would you like to own this scenic property in WoW? Well, now you can, thanks to Garrisons.
Player housing in Warlords of Draenor will be called Garrisons, but in addition to being a house they offer a whole lot more.
Here are the very basic features that we know so far:
When you chose to build your own Garrison in the world, you get quite a few choices.
First off you will get to select where you want it located and will have several choices throughout the zones in Draenor. While the locations are pre-determined as they are integrated directly into the world, you will be able to move them around later on.
Once you build your Garrison you will be able to select from several different buildings to add to it. Each of those buildings provides different benefits to you and potentially has several upgrades available to it as you expand your Garrison.
This is a test version of the UI for upgrading your Garrison buildings as displayed at BlizzCon.
The base of your Garrison will be an Town Hall. Once you have this building you will expand out from that to other buildings. One of the first that you will likely create is the Inn, which will be able to be used to find new followers, cook at, and set your hearthstone too.
As you can see in the sample UI above, you will also be able to place the buildings in different locations to suit your personal choice. Also shown are many of the various different buildings that you can choose to construct.
Here are three levels of the Inn as displayed at BlizzCon.
Once your Garrison is built, you wild also be able to invite your friends over to it, allowing them access to your own corner of the world. In addition, because the Garrison is part of the world, you will be able to see it when running around in the zone, or even as you fly over it while using a flight point.
In addition to the great options provided to you from having a garrison, you will also be able to collect followers at the garrison. These followers will be gathered in multiple ways, either through questing, faction levels, or even as quest rewards.
Followers will come in various specialties, that match character class types. You will be able to find tank, healer, and DPS followers.
What the Followers screen is likely to look like.
Followers will essentially be simplified characters that you control. They will have their own level, item level, professions, and abilities. These will all be able to be changed and improved as you level them up through the use of garrison missions (described below).
Followers will be able to be sent on missions, but when not on those missions will hang out and perform tasks around the garrison. This means you will be able to visit them in game and interact with them. One such interaction will be the ability to have them craft items for you, even though you may not have that professions.
Followers will come in various rarity levels, these will range from common through to epic. This is similar to the pet system that is already in place.
One of the coolest things about having followers in your garrison is that you will be able to send them out on various missions.
Your followers can be tasked with crafting, gathering, and even questing. Better yet, all of these things can be assigned to them and then the followers go out and complete progress on these tasks even while you are not in the game.
This is the sample garrison mission screen as shown at BlizzCon.
There will be a lot more information being released about garrisons and how they will play a part in the Warlords of Draenor expansion as we get nearer to release. However, even with the limited amount we know already, garrisons look like a great addition to the game.
What are your thoughts on garrisons? Will you be building and maintaining yours? What do you thing of being able to have followers in the game, and have them complete tasks even while you are logged out? Let us know in the comments section below.
