Warlords of Draenor Quest Changes Banner

World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor is set to bring many changes to the game. The changes that we are going to look at in this preview are those around the questing changes in the new expansion. So, what is questing going to be like in the Warlords of Draenor for players?

Warlords of Draenor - Quests and Maps

Warlords of Draenor map changes
There are several changes being implemented to help with quests, as shown above on the new map UI.

Some of the best changes being introduced (in my opinion) are actually some of the simplest. The three changes outlined here are basic changes that make the game easier to play through, they are: Key story lines, map and progress changes, and finding quests.

The first important change is that the expansion will focus on key story lines in each zone. These story lines will be highlighted in the game to help identify them as the main quests that should be completed. In addition to these story line quests, there will be many offshoot (minor / optional) quest lines. By splitting quests up in this way it will really help make things a whole lot clearer as too which quests you really need to do when making your way through the new content.

To go along with the above change, quest locations will be better shown on the in game map. The map will also show how many of the key quest lines you have completed in the zone, and how many of them there are to do.

The above two changes should make it a lot less likely that you get to what you think is the end of a zone, and for some reason can not access the final quests. This has happened in past expansions where phased content was involved and if you missed a key story line quest, you would not be able to access the last quest areas. This new system will highlight those key quests so that you do not mistake them for minor quests that could be ignored.

The other big change, which is a great one, is the addition of the Adventure Guide. This new feature aims to help players both as they level and at max level. You can find out more about it in it's own guide here: World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor - Adventure Guide.

Warlords of Draenor - Quest Items and Rewards

There are more changes coming to quests in Warlords of Draenor as well. This set of changes focuses on items and rewards.

The first change has to do with inventory space and quest items. Once the expansion launches, don't go hunting through your bags for that quest item you just looted, it won't be there. Instead all quest related items will be linked to the quest itself! This is a great change as it will free up inventory space, and ensure that the item disappears when you either complete the quest, or abandon it.

Next up is a change to how quest rewards are given. Currently, every player gets the same selection of rewards when they complete a quest. Sure there are some differences as different specs may be given different options, but all the rewards will be the same level. In this expansion however, there will be a small chance that quest rewards will "proc" an upgrade for you. This means that each reward has a chance to be upgraded to a rare or epic item instead of the standard reward. This could provide some additional excitement when leveling and questing as you find the odd epic reward.

These are interesting changes, as it means you could get an epic while leveling up.

Warlords of Draenor - Legendary Quests and Amount of Content

Blizzard also announced that the new expansion will once again feature an expansion long legendary quest chain for players to work on. The legendary quest chain in Mists of Pandaria was wildly successful and garnered a lot of participation across all levels of player. This has been seen by Blizzard and will be repeated.

Lastly, at BlizzCon the Blizzard team announced that Warlords of Draenor will have more max level content than ever before! This actually means quite a bit, since Mists of Pandaria launched with a huge amount of end game content, much more than any previous expansion. This could be really good for the game. Oh, and even better yet... it was stated that" Very little (maybe none) of the new content will be delivered as daily quests." What? Hurray!

Warlords of Draenor Quest Changes - Comments

As you can probably tell, I am pretty excited and positive about all of the changes being announced regarding questing in Warlords of Draenor so far. What are your thoughts on the announcements so far? Do you see any obvious issues, or are you just as pleased as the Messiah? Let me know by sharing your thoughts in our comment section below.
