Update: Activision Blizzard completes Vivendi share buyout.
Original Story (10/10/2013): Bobby Kotick’s charge to secure Activision Blizzard’s independence from Vivendi with a $8.17 billion buyout is moving forward following a successful appeal of a preliminary injunction that delayed the buyout last month. The deal was delayed after multiple investors filed lawsuits to stop the split from of which the second, filed by Douglas Hayes, resulted in a preliminary injunction, and effectively stopping the deal temporarily. As of today, Activision Blizzard confirmed that the court has overturned that injunction and the deal is expected to be completed by October 15th, 2013.
Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick led the charge to split the publisher from parent company Vivendi following a potentially disastrous plan by Vivendi to sap cash from Activision and burden the gaming company with a heavy load of its debt.
