Armed with this information, we were finally able to begin to examine what
the Roleplayer needed to survive. After observing them for many months, we found
a few key areas.

First, they need a way to express themselves. This expression must be as
varied as possible, and will need to be almost constantly expanded on. Whether
this expansion is done by the Devs or a way for the players to make their own is
provided seems to be irrelevant.
Secondly, they need an environment in which to play. While RP servers are
often provided, these servers often allow their natural predators to move freely
through them. This negates the advantages these refuges should provide. It is
perhaps this habitat issue that is causing the declining numbers of Roleplayers
in modern times.
Lastly, they need others of their kind. A single Roleplayer can do little. In
groups, these curious creatures become a true spectacle to behold. Congregations
of Roleplayers can aid in a concept known as "immersion", whereby the other
players are pulled more completely into the game world.
With the survival of this creative and unique species hanging in the balance,
we cannot afford to be complacent. Unfortunately, conservation efforts for this
species are very weak, with many MMOs throwing up the reserves and calling it
good. More must be done before these eccentric creatures disappear from our
world forever...
