Book eight begins with the completion of Book Seven. With the successful rescue of the Ranger Golodir, you return to the hidden fortress of Garth Forthnir only to learn that his spirit has been broken. His torment at the hands of Mordirith; and the loss of his daughter Lorniel, has left Golodir a broken shadow of his former self. The Elf Laerdan, enlist your aid in restoring Golodir's spirit and in pursuing the False-king Mordirith, that now resides in the former lair of the Witch-king.

Golodir can be found in the northern room of the small city of Gath Forthnir in northeastern Angmar, in the area of Himbar. The Ranger's will is somewhat broken at the loss of his daughter and he will order you from his sight. Leave Golodir and speak with Laerdan again.
Laerdan wants you to help restore Golodir's spirit by retrieving his gear from Carn Dum. Assemble a fellowship and make for the Gates of Carn Dum. If you know a good Hunter with a campsite near the gates you can avoid a lot of fighting and travel time. Once you reach Carn Dum, start slaying anything that moves. Golodir's gear can drop randomly from anything, Wargs included. You will need to collect Golodir's sword, shield, and shirt. Once you have all three items, return to Laerdan in Gath Forthnir.
Rewards: 39s 76c
You managed to gather up Golodir's gear, but it seems the items have become corroded and useless. Laerdan will instruct you to try and have them repaired by one of Golodir's fellow Rangers in the Ranger stronghold of of Esteldin, located in the North Downs. Take the items to Esteldin and speak with the Ranger Daervunn at Loc: 9.5s, 41.3w in the northeast of the second courtyard. Daervunn will be able to repair Golodir's shirt, but the sword and shield are a bit too much for him. He will send you to speak with Toram in Esteldin about their repairs. He can be found at Loc: 9.5s, 42.0w just to the northeast of the horse stable. Toram will be able to repair the shield, but the sword is of Elf make and beyond his skill. Collect the shield once Toram finishes repairs and speak with Daervunn once more to collect Golodir's shirt and find out what to do about the damaged sword.
Reward: 24s 85c
Daervunn will instruct you to take the sword to Elrond of Rivendell. He believes Elrond will know a way to repair the sword. Elrond can be found in the Last Homely House in eastern Rivendell.
Elrond believes his chief smith Hemeldir can repair Golodir's sword. Take the sword to Hemeldir in the northwestern corner of Rivendell at Loc: 28.6s, 6.2w. Once Hemeldir finishes repairs on the sword, return with it to Elrond for approval.
Reward: 24s 85c
Elrond will approve of the swords reforging and bestow it with a new name, Dúnachar, Avenger of the West. After prophesizing that it will one day avenge Lorniel's death, he will instruct you to deliver it and the rest of Golodir's gear to Laerdan. Return to Gath Forthnir and speak with Laerdan once more.
Pleased with the repair of Golodir's gear, Laerdan will instruct you to deliver it to Golodir himself. Take the gear to Golodir to complete this chapter.
Reward: 24s 85c
The gear you returned to Golodir spawned new spirit in the Ranger. He now wishes to attack Mordirith's lair and he wants you to aid him. Gather a strong fellowship and a +5 hope token before speaking with Golodir again. Once you are prepared, speak with Golodir to enter the instance "Mordirith's Fall."
Once you are prepared to begin, speak with Golodir. Keep a close eye on Golodir as you fight through. If he falls you will fail. Once you begin, you will follow Golodir through a long narrow hallway. Each door you pass through will yield a fight. Mordirith will appear as an astral image as he displays his power over the souls of fallen heroes that have been imprisoned within his keep. There are three doors you must pass to reach Mordirith's throne room.
Door 1: When the first door opens, you will be attacked by two Elite Angmarim and the fallen heroes Mordirith was taunting before you. The Angmarim are the harder ones, but they will drop quickly. The fallen heroes are pretty weak and not much of a threat. Dispatch the group and follow Golodir to door number two where you will be given another demonstration of Mordirith's power over fallen heroes.
Door 2: This time you will be assaulted by another wave of Angmarim and fallen heroes. This is a fairly common fight and there is no special strategy to beating them. Just fight as you would any other group. Once they have been defeated, move to the third and final door.
Door 3: This is the last door before the throne room. Mordirith will appear one last time as his astral self to taunt you with more fallen heroes. Once he finishes this time, you will be assaulted by three fallen heroes and the door will open releasing a troll into the room. It is usually best to have the tank at the front and the rest of the group behind the troll to avoid his stun as it is a small fighting space. Defeat the troll and fallen heroes and advance into Mordirith's throne room.
As you approach the throne, Mordirith will taunt Golodir with a ghostly image of his daughter. Golodir's spirit will falter as he begs you to cast out the image. Attack the ghost image of Lorniel. The image will not attack so burn her down as you will. Once you have defeated her a bright flash will blind the fellowship for a moment and when it clears, Mordirith will stand in Lorniel's place. He will attack immediately. You will get an automatic +9 dread affect. Make sure to use a +5 Hope token when the battle begins.
Statisitic breakdown:
Name: Mordirith
Level: 52
Type: Elite Nemesis
Morale: 46,753
Power: 8,946
This fight is long, but if you pace yourself and fight smart it really isn't that hard. The biggest challenge is spotting Lorniel as soon as she appears and burning her down fast. Aside from that, keep Golodir alive and you will outlast Mordirith. The +5 Hope token however, is a must.
At this point there are three things you must do.
When the fight is joined, Lorniel will appear from time to time. Focus your attacks on her when she does. If you don't, the dread will overwhelm you. She will disappear after receiving a given amount of damage and then reappear throughout the fight. When she appears, everyone, but the tank, should focus attacks on her until she falls. When she disappears, everyone should focus on Mordirith. Just keep a watchful eye for her ghostly form to reappear. Once she is dead (again), focus your attacks on Mordirith. Once you have taken all of his Morale, he will leave you with a few choice words, and in a blinding flash, he will vanish.
With Mordirith defeated, an unlikely character will appear. The old woman Sara Oakheart steps from the doorway and thank you for doing her a great service and then she stuns your entire group. She will then flee deeper into the fortress before you recover. Speak with Golodir to complete the instance and return to Gath Forthnir.
Rewards: 49s 70c
Golodir will instruct you to report what has occurred to Aragorn. You can find Aragorn in the Last Homely House in Rivendell. Speak with Aragorn to complete Book 8 and collect your reward.
Rewards: 24s 85c
If at this point you wish to start Epic Book Nine, speak with Gandalf the Grey in the Last Homely House.
