Book five begins right after Book four. Once Book four is completed you will be sent to speak to Lord Elrond. Elrond is concerned that the Nazgul you have chased off has fled to the Misty Mountains to the north of Rivendale. The Nazgul may be attempting to use the inhabitants of the Misty Mountains in a plot against Rivendale.
Elrond will tell you to head north into the Misty Mountains and seek out the Dwarf Gloins encampment. Leave Rivendell by the path to the north. Once you reach the Misty Mountains stay along the hillside to the west until the land opens to the west. Follow the western path until you reach Gloins encampment. The location is marked on the map I have included with this guide.
Rewards:
Inscribed Horn
Glorn believes that the Nazgul might be responsible for the recent surge in Goblin activity. To help settle them down he wants you to slay their leader Gurzmat. The Goblin encampment can be found to the northeast of Gloins encampment. Gurzmat is located on the top of the hill by the Goblin encampment in the Eastern Bruinen Source. This battle is fairly easy. I did it with a 44 Champion as a 44 Guardian and they conned dark blue. Slay him and return to Gloin to collect your reward. The location is marked on the map I have included with this guide .
Rewards:
Threk-fótar
Congronn
Doom of Gurzmat
In your absence Gloin learned that the Nazgul entered the old Dwarven stronghold known as Gabilazan that is now in the hands of the Dourhands, but he was not alone. The Nazgul is accompanied by Skorgrím. Gloin believes the only way to reach them will be to find the secret entrance to the stronghold. This was stored in a cornerstone long ago.
(You may want to gather a couple of allies for this next part. You will be facing several Dwarves and one is an elite with two guards guarding the cornerstone. I did this as a 44 Guardian with the help of a 44 Hunter. The location is marked on the map I have included with this guide)
The cornerstone is located in the Gabilazan vault in the south east part of the Misty Mountains. It is located in the western most pass between the High Crags and the giant Halls. You will have to fight your way past several Dourhand Dwarves to reach the vault. Once inside there are a total of five guards. Two of the guards are at the top a little past where you enter, but the entrance is safe. Once you dispose of these two head down the stairs behind them and you will face three more. One is an elite, but his two accomplices are normal. Once you have defeated these enemies click the stone they were guarding to acquire the secret entrance plans. Once you have clicked the item return to Gloin at his encampment to complete the quest.
The last task you will need to complete before continuing to the final instance is to acquire a lost key-stone to open the secret entrance of the great keep of Gabilazan. The key is located northwest of the stone caller circle not to far from the Bruinen Source. The key is near Iskelds Lookout guarded by several snow beast and it is in the form of a few crates piled beside the ruins. The location is marked on the map I have included with this guide. Once you have the key, return to Gloin at his encampment.
Now that you have the key and the location of the secret entrance you can enter Gabilazan and try to put a stop to the evil at its source. Gloin will send his son, the famous Gimli the Dwarf with you to aid in this task. Before you enter gather a strong group of allies and take with you a Hope Token. You will need it for the final battle. When you are ready, speak with Gimli to enter the instance.
When you enter, take a moment to prep for battle and ready yourself. The instance will not start until you speak with Gimli inside it. Once you are prepared speak with Gimli and prepare for battle. Gimli must survive so make sure you keep him alive at all cost.
Gimli will advance foreword and you will be attacked by several Dourhand Dwarves. They come in waves and usually about five at a time, but these first few are all normal so they go down pretty quick, but as you advance in, you will be besieged by waves of elite Dwarves so expect combat to be fast and chaotic at times. Your tank should be able to handle what comes, but if you have other methods of crowd control they can make things a lot easier. Just keep an eye on Gimli he has a tendency to grab aggro. As you advance in Gimli will stop and allow you to rest from time to time. Take full advantage of this while you can.
Eventually, you will advance up the stairs towards the main door of Gabilazan. Once you dispose of the waves of Dourhands here Gimli will stop and allow you to rest. Once you are ready, speak with him again and he will investigate the area while taunting those hiding inside. Gimli will eventually head down the path to the left. Dispose of the Dourhands here and Gimli will open a passage and step through. This next part works to your advantage.
Step through the door where you will find Gimli waiting, but dont speak to him. Instead, take the time to reast and without speaking to Gimli, take your fellowship to the stairs ahead and slay the 2 groups of Dourhands at the top. Speak with Gimli after this and he will head up the stairs and investigate without the threat of attack. Once he is finished follow him to the large stone door down the Hallway. You will encounter a couple more of the Dourhands, but they will fall quickly. Once at the door Gimli will stop allowing you to rest one last time. Use the Hope Token here before you speak with Gimli again.
When you are ready, use the hope token and speak with Gimli to start the final battle. The door will fling open and the Nazgul and Skorgrím will emerge. The Nazgul will instruct Skorgrím to deal with you as he takes his leave. Now you finally get to pound that useless Dwarf into the ground. When the battle begins you will see why the Hope token was needed. Skorgrím is not really all that hard for an experienced group, but the strategy we used was pretty basic. The tank (Me a Guardian) took agro and spun Skorgrím so that his back was to the group. Everyone else did damage while the Minstrel kept the tank and Gimli alive. The battle may take a while, but pace yourself and you will make it just fine. Once Skorgrím has been defeated a fell spirit will arise in his place and curse all the Longbeards before going poof. Speak with Gimli to complete the quest and exit the instance.
Once back at Gloins camp tell him of what has transpired and collect your reward.
Reward:
The Stone-cutter's Arms
The Climber's Hands
Glóin's Gold Ring
Crawler-hide Coat
Gloín's Halberd
When you return to Gloin he will share a tale with you about Thorog, a once mighty dragon that took over the Dwarven hold of Halegrod. This great dragon was defeated by Durin who marshaled a force from Khazad-dum to defeat it. The dragons body still lies at the bottom of the mountain, preserved by the ice of the mountains.
Gloin is unsure if this is the reason the Nazgul seeks to regain Halegrod, but he wants you to investigate its borders for clues. You will need to scout near the Helegrod treasury which is located just east of the Bitter Stairs in the far north of the Misty Mountains. The entrance can be found east along the base of the mountain from the stairs.
When you arrive at the door to Helegrod's treasury two wights will spawn and attack you at the door. The fight is pretty easy so you should have little trouble defeating them. Once they are dead loot the Sigil from their corpse and return to Gloin and speak with him at his encampment.
Upon learning of the Sigil you discovered, Gloin will become troubled and send you to speak with Lord Elrond at the Last Homely house in Rivendale. Speak with Elrond and he will tell you he knows now what the Nazgul seeks. He is attempting to raise Thorog and a dragon within striking distance of Imladris is a grave threat. Elrond will instruct you to enter the Helegrod treasury and put an end to the Wights plans.
Gather a strong group of allies and pick up a Hope Token for the trip. Once you are prepared, make your way back to the entrance of the Helegrod treasury where you encountered the Wights and enter. You will encounter several fights that include multiple creatures so fight smart and make sure your tank kepps aggro while everyone assist him.
A short ways in you will encounter an obelisk. This will trigger a sub-quest for you to complete. You will need to find 3 other Obelisk within the dungeon and click on them to activate. I have marked their locations on the map as well as the Nazguls. He is however, difficult to miss, with the giant dragon and all.Once you are prepared to face the nazgul, use your hope token and enter the room with the dragon.
This is a long and tough fight for a well balanced group of even level. The Nazgul will cause dread in your party and without a Hope Token this can become a danger as your group can end up cowering at key moments in the battle. When you have withered the nazgul down to near death, he will call upon the power of the great eye and recover almost all of his moral ans summon three ghost to help him in the battle. Dispose of the ghost to eliminate their damage as they go down easier than the Nazgul. Once they are dead, refocus on the nazgul and hit him with all you've got. Once he goes down this time its over. He is defeated and returns to the shadows.
Pat yourself on the back for winning a tough battle. Return to Elrond and tell him of your victory and claim your reward.
