NCsoft
has introduced a host of changes to Aion
with the 2.5 "Empyrean Calling"
patch. Ten Ton Hammer got a sneak peek at the new pet changes coming
players’ way. Not only are there new pets, but there is also
a new system to keep track of the pet’s mood as well as a new
pet management system and gifts for taking care of your pets well. See how it all comes together in the following preview guide!

You can place pets into 7 categories.
Pets can be purchased with Kinah from Pet Merchants, who offer
Companion, Pack, and Fortune pets. Your purchased egg will be placed in
your Inventory.
The tokens awarded when you complete Daily Quests can be used to
purchase pet eggs from Special Reward Stewards. Each organization
offers different pet types.
You can find many adorable and unique pets in the NCsoft Store for
purchase.
There are several other ways to acquire a pet. You can get them through
Veteran Rewards or through quests and some higher level Instances.
To open your Pet Window you can either right-click on your pet or
right-click on the pet’s target bar to open your Pet Window.
The Pet Window displays your pet’s information and has a menu
for management and feeding, depending on the pet type.
Pet
Info
Displays your pet’s information and gives access to the
pet’s function(s). For inventory pets, you can manage items
here. For an Auto-feeding pet, you can set the food and scrolls to use
automatically.
Pet
Status
Use the different actions you’ve learned through pet manuals
to raise your pet’s mood. Refer to the pet management section
below.
Pet
Present
When your pet’s mood is at 100% you can use this command to
receive a Pet Present.
Dismiss
You can dismiss the summoned pet through the Pet management menu. A
pet’s mood is reset 10 minutes after it is dismissed.
Change
Name
Your pet’s name can be changed at any time from the Pet
window’s menu.
* After changing your pet’s name there is a 30 second delay
before you can change it again.
First, click on Pet Status from the menu:
Choose
an Interaction:
New with the 2.5 update!
Selecting your pet will display an Interaction Petbar near your
Quickbar. Initially, this gives you two options:
Checking your pet’s status will display another Petbar, which
contains the different emotes you have learned – Snuggle Pet,
Play with Pet, Groom Pet, and Train Pet.
Choosing an available emote will trigger a reaction from the pet and
its mood will increase (Each emote offers the same increase in mood).
Pets have three random reactions when you interact with them
– normal, good, very good – Very Good increases the
pet mood more than the others. This reaction is not common and has a
low percentage of occurrence (roughly 10%). Watch out for the special
animation when your pet gives a Very Good reaction.

You may purchase manuals from
the pet merchant.
In order to use the different pet emotes available, you must first
acquire the manual and learn it like any other emote or skill. Pet
manuals may be purchased from a Pet Merchant with Kinah or received as
a reward after completing certain quests.
Elyos can complete 3 chain quests:
style="font-weight: bold;">Leah’s
Loneliness > Emotional Pet > Love for Pet
Asmodian can complete 3 chain quests:
style="font-weight: bold;">Mane’s Best
Friend > Pet’s Hidden Thoughts > Pet Waiting
for Love

New system added with the 2.5
update.
Keeping your pet summoned and using the different pet management
functions will continue to increase the pet’s mood until it
reaches 100%, then you can receive a Pet Present.
Checking
Pet Mood
When you click on the pet, there is status bar at the top of the screen
that represents the pet’s mood. When you mouse-over the
status bar it will display the pet’s mood and current status.
Managing
your Pet’s Mood
Play
with your pet to improve its mood!
Your
pet’s mood increases just by keeping it summoned.
There are two ways to make your pet feel good.
One is by playing with the pet or by using the pet emotes available.
Another is by keeping your pet summoned. The former can only be used
once every 10 minutes and you’ll see a larger increase on the
mood gauge. The latter boosts your pet’s mood over time and
is convenient because no action is needed.
A
Gift from your Pet
A
Yellow box will appear above the pet’s head

alt="aion" src="http://www.tentonhammer.com/image/view/98424">
Select
pet present from the menu!
When the pet mood reaches 100% you can select “pet
present” in the interaction bar or management menu (This
option is only available when your pet’s mood is 100%).
Upon selecting this option, you will receive a Pet Present as the
reward. Opening the present will give you a number of coins dependant
on the character level.
You can only use the Pet Present command once an hour, even if the
pet’s mood is at 100% again. This applies to all
pet’s, so you will be unable to switch pets and receive
another present in that same hour.
Functional
pets are pets that have functions like their own Inventory
or Auto-feeding. The pet’s description is displayed in the
Pet window next to the pet information.
Pet functions can be used and set in the Pet Window. You can move items
to your Pack pets Inventory here and set the food, drinks, and magical
items for an Auto-feeding pet to use.
Fortune
Pets – Feeding
style="font-weight: bold;">
Only fortune pets eat pet food
Fortune pets need to be fed and each type requires a specific type of
food. If you feed them until they are full, they will produce a bundle
item that is placed in your Inventory and can be opened to receive a
gift.
To feed your pet, go to the Feeding tab in the Pet window and then drag
the appropriate food to the food bowl slot.
Most pets will only eat a particular food type and once they are fully
fed, they will need to wait a while before eating again.
Pets mainly eat junk items (that can be acquired during hunting), so
it’s good to collect and hold on to them for a later feeding.

The Feeding tab allows you to see your pet’s current State,
what type of food and treats they eat, and even feed your
pet. When full, pets must wait 10mins before eating again.
Pack
Pets – Inventory
Items
that are untradeable can be stored in your pet’s pouch
This pet comes fully equipped with its own Pet Bag (Inventory) that can
be opened through the Pet window. The number of spaces available
depends on the pet type. You can use your pet’s pouch
anytime, anywhere.
* You can store untradeable items and quest items in your
pet’s bag.
* Make sure you don’t forget about quest items, as they
won’t update in the Quest status this way.
When you summon a pack pet, a paw button will appear in your inventory
to open the pet’s bag.
Auto-feeding
- Feed Bag
Auto-feeding pets can use food, drinks, and magical items for you when
they are placed in the pet’s Feed Bag. Typically you would
have to reuse these items when their time expires or create a macro to
do it for you, but with an auto-feeding pet it will happen
automatically when the time hits 0. This function can be toggled on/off
from the Feed Bag tab of the Pet window.
Auto-looting
- Pick Up Item
Auto-looting pets pick up items for their master. You can toggle this
function from the Pet Loot tab of the Pet window.
Note:
The pet can only pick up items within 28m and if you have ownership of
the loot. It will not pick up any untradeable items, those that require
a dice roll, or if the loot setting is Free-For-All.
The 2.5 update introduced the option to set hot keys for different pet
actions.
[Options] → [Key Mapping] tab to set hot keys to open your Pet
List and Pet Info or to Select Pet.
