Thinking about picking up Forester? First put on a flannel shirt, grab an axe and sing "I'm a lumberjack and i'm ok. I work all night and....ok it sounded less corny in my head. A Forester gathers, you guessed it, wood and animal pelts. These are processed and used by a number of vocations.
In order to begin as a forester you'll have to pick a vocation that supports this skill which at this time is Explorer and Woodsman. Speak with any Master Apprentice in the major cities to switch. You are given a basic tool that slows which has a low repair cost but is slower. I've heard people recommending against upgrading them. The jury is still out on that for me.
After you train with the Master Apprentice you should receive a skill which can be turned on showing you where resource nodes are on the mini-map. Even nodes off the map will be denoted by an arrow so you know which way to head. These nodes are all over the place but some will require a certain level of skill to prepare the metal. The starter areas are a great place to begin looking for the lower level metal. Also keep in mind you'll be gathering in hostile environments so be prepared for combat at any time.
Make sure you have the proper tool with you but when you find a node and just click to begin harvesting.
Now that you've gathered up some materials it's time to put this stuff to good use. You'll need to locate a workbench which can be found in most cities and a few of recipes require a component purchased from the Supplier nearby. The Forester recipes are:
Skill Level Recipe Ingredients Points Earned Per Craft Apprentice Tier 1 Boiled Light Leather Light Hides (2)
Each time you create something as a forester you earn points of experience which will allow you to advance out of the lowly apprentice world. Some recipes require higher skills so if you want to make the good stuff, you have to get crafting! How many points you'll get is listed in the recipe. Unlike other MMO's you won't be selling your finalized product back even for cost so carry it to the auction house if you want to recoup your money. Otherwise stow it away for use in the products you are making to advance your other crafting professions and save yourself time later.
I hope you found the Ten Ton Hammer guide to Forester useful. If you see anything we've missed or something that needs to be added please email me , you'll get full credit.
