Gaining salvage rights...

Starting out in Guild Wars, there's oh-so-much to learn. The game has a lot of aspects the seasoned gamer will recognize, but there's always a period of adjusting to the mechanisms of a new game. One of the critical things you'll need to learn to get your feet under you in Guild Wars is how to use identification and salvage kits to best effect.

It's pretty safe to salvage white weapons and items without risking value. You'll get items like "bolts of cloth" and "wood planks." Value generally comes from the modifiers—which appear on blue, purple, and gold items. Blue denotes relatively common modifiers, like minor runes and weapon parts (hilts, bow strings, staff wrappings, etc) purple indicates some rarity, and gold is rarest of all.
