But what exactly *IS* Yoda?

Past the pop culture icon status, past the movies and toys, what IS he? What is his species, where does he come from, and more importantly, why do we care?

You see, for those of us who enjoy Star Wars as a movie, or a line of really cool toys, Yoda is a Jedi Master. He’s the one who teaches Luke to use the force for good and not for stuff like choking puppies or squeezing the shit out of old ladies at the grocery store because they’re trying to pay for a cartload of cat food with pennies. Yoda was an instructor, a mentor, and a key influence in the life of Luke Skywalker.

But we still have no clue about his race, species, or even if he was from the swamp he lived in or if he just had to move there so that his Baby-Momma couldn’t find him and try to get him for back child support. We know nothing about him, truly, because the movies didn’t tell us.
