Game Director Matt Firor chats about keeping players long-term and making sure The Elder Scrolls Online is stable at launch.

Matt Firor has seen his share of success in the MMOG realm with his work on Dark Age of Camelot, a success that he hopes to repeat and amplify with The Elder Scrolls Online. Speaking with Edge, Firor discussed what Zenimax Online Studios is doing to keep players around for the long haul, and making sure that The Elder Scrolls Online is well-tested before launch to ensure stability and a smooth playing experience.

[Laughs] It’s not only that, but there’s also many different types of tech problems when you create an MMOG. Account creation, servers, latency. The critical difference with MMOGs, though, is that you have a long beta test where you build up to thousands and thousands of players, and you tackle those problems as you run into them there.

Firor also touches on the evolution of gameplay in MMORPGs and exploration quest design for The Elder Scrolls Online. You can read more of the interview with Matt Firor at Edge.
