North Downs Quest Guide: Esteldin and Othrikar Part 2

For those reaching into their 20's, the North Downs will provide a lush hunting ground for any looking to acquire a few fellowship or solo quests. This land is the buffer between Angmar and the open lands of the Free Peoples' of Middle-earth. This leaves plenty of opportunity for adventurers to acquire much power and lots of profit.

Level Quest Name Background Task Reward Prerequisite Celephadh has asked for your help in securing the lands around Esteldín and warding off any threats.

Slay 20 spiders

The spiders can be found just south of Esteldin. Note the webs.

Slay 20 Orcs

Orcs can be found in Kingsfell, South of Gatson's Farm, and in Dol Dinen.

Slay 20 Wargs

Wargs can be found south of Esteldin and in Nan Amlug East.

Collect 6 helmets for Celephadh.

The Orcs you need can be found in Dol Dinen. Ongburz Sharp-eye, and Ongburz Berserker.

Level Quest Name Background Task Reward Prerequisite Orgrin, the quartermaster at Othrikar, requires your aid in maintaining the camps stores. Collect 15 Lynx-furs. Lynx can be found roaming the hills around Othrikar. Quartermaster Orgrin has asked for your help in making the hills safer for his hunters.

Slay 12 Wargs

(Note: Wargs can be found south of Esteldin and in Nam Amlug East.)

Quartermaster Orgrin has asked you to help replenish Othrikar's food stores.

Collect 10 Slabs of Auroch meat for Quartermaster Orgrin.

(Note: Auroch can be found in Nan Amlug East.)

 

Regin (Esteldin Loc: 7.12S, 45.14W) Level Quest Name Background Task Reward Prerequisite The dwarf-mine at Othrikar is almost played out. Regin has heard of a rich "father-lode" somewhere in Nan Amlug, and he hopes to determine the location of this lode.

Collect the mining records.

The records are in a footlocker on a rise in Othrikar near

Loc: 7.3S, 45.4W.

Regin is unable to make sense of the runes in the mining records you found. Strangely enough, they appear to be written in an Elvish script.

Take the records to Glambaen in the Elvish outpost of Lin Giliath at

Loc: 13.7S, 44.9W.

Then return them to Regin.

Glambaen deciphered the runes on the old prospecting records, but they reference a map that appears to be missing. Collect the Dourhand mining map. It ccan be found in a chest near

Loc: 4.87S, 45.48W. With the map you recovered from Foreman Nyrad and the runes from the old records, Regin may have determined the general location of the father-lode. Take an ore sample from the father-load. It can be found at Loc: 5.56S, 47.1W.

 

Level Quest Name Background Task Reward Prerequisite The Dourhands, an ancient, but declined dwarf-family, were recently outed from Thorin's Halls and the mines of Othrikar for their betrayal of Durin's Folk, the Longbeards. The rogue clan continues to be a nuisance in the North Downs.

Slay 8 Dourhand Scouts.

They can be found north, east, and west of Othrikar. Scouts are not to far from the city and there are large numbers of them to the north and west.

Reports have come to Othrikar that the Dourhands are planning to move against the mines and oust the Longbeards.

Find the chest with the Dourhand plans.

The chest can be found at

Loc: 7.24S, 47.26W.

The plans you recovered from the Dourhands revealed the time of their attack and the strength of their numbers. It appears they are a greater threat than Hannar first believed.

Slay Torfi Hammerhorn

He can be found north of Othrikar at his camp near

Level Quest Name Background Task Reward Prerequisite Orthonn, a younger Ranger from Esteldín, was sent to gather herbs and simples for the coming battles with the invading Orcs. Collect 5 Meadowsweet Plants.

(This grows near the water areas surrounding Lin Giriath)

 

Mallennor (Esteldin Loc: 9.8S, 42.15W) Level Quest Name Background Task Reward Prerequisite The terrible slaughter of the Orc invasion has driven away the farmers from the western Nan Amlug, and with them any trade the Rangers had maintained. Short on supplies and provender, the Rangers of Esteldín must rely on their own resourcefulness to restock their supplies.

The Auroch can be found east of Esteldin in Nan Amlug East.

 

Level Quest Name Background Task Reward Prerequisite Orcs stormed out of the Ram Dúath and swept across the North Downs. After their passage, Hillmen out of Angmar came through the pass and encamped beyond the cliff faces and treacherous paths.

Scout the Hillman camps on the western and eastern entrances to Ram Duath

You can find the two entrances at these locations.

The western pass of Ram Dúath has long been home to worms, least of dragon-kind. Dwelling in the crags and caves of the mountain pass, they prey upon any who dare that path. Slay 10 Cold Worms in the western pass of Ram Duath. You can find the entrance to the western pass at

Loc: 5.6S, 40.7W. Not only are there worms within the western valley of Ram Dúath, but drakes as well. The winged drakes, more intelligent than their lesser kin, present a greater threat to Esteldín and the North Downs. Use 6 of the Drake Eggs in the nest scattered through the western pass of Ram Duath. A drake-matron, the mother of the brood you destroyed, resides within the western valley of Ram Dúath. The pass will not be safe until she is slain. Slay the Drake Matron. You may want to bring some help for this quest. The Matron can be found along the western pass of Ram Duath in Angmar around

Slay Goblins and collect 10 Goblin Slave collars from goblins near either of the etrances of Dol Dinen. Gondranc ( Esteldin Loc: 9.69S, 42.06W) Level Quest Name Background Task Reward Prerequisite At the request of the Ranger Gondranc, you went to the camp of the Earth-kin north-east of Esteldín to retrieve a book of leatherworking lore Asikko, the Earth-kin's chieftain, had promised him. With this lore, he will be able to make much better armour for the people of Trestlebridge.

Collect 16 Thick Worm-scales

Collect 6 Sturdy Worm-scales

Collect 4 Thin Worm-scales

The worms that drop the scales are Cold and Rock-worms located in the western pass of ram Duath.

Disable several of the Orcs catapults, trebuchets, and ballista in Dol Dinen.

(Note: These can be found all around Dol Dinen. They are easily identified by their flicker when you approach them. Pretty much each one in Dol Dinen is fair game.)

Slay 16 Trolls in Dol Dinen.

You can find trolls deep in Dol Dinen. There is one hill full of them and several others scattered around the land.

Slay 20 Orc Bone-speakers

(Note: The Bone-speakers can be found within Dol Dinen. Particularly in the southeast.)

A large, armoured troll has been seen walking amongst the siege weapons overlooking the approach to the hills in the southernmost reaches of Dol Dínen. The Ranger Hithlim believes that this great brute leads the trolls who maintain the siege-weapons at Dol Dínen.
