OMGZ PvP is teh Roxxor!

I’m not going to apologize for the title because you and I both know there are people that say it. It’s not everyone, and I’m not stereotyping, but if you look around enough you’ll find them. Player vs Player (PvP) is a unique, aggressive, competitive, and dramatic form of playstyle that pits you against other humans who want nothing more than to “pwn” you. Filled with many griefers, gankers, cheaters, and people trying to compensate for shortcomings, it also is home to some of the most skilled players an MMO will ever see.

The good news? Gods and Heroes is going to have PvP at launch from what I hear! Very few MMO’s even attempt a game launch without some type of PvP system in place, so this bodes well for them. Not much is known about PvP in Gods and Heroes, so why am I writing this? Good freaking question! There are some PvP aspects I'd like to see make it in the game.

First, I think opposing sides is a necessity. There is nothing worse than a free for all area where hardly anyone cooperates and destruction is rampant. Give us something to band together and fight for. There is nothing more inspiring than seeing a bunch of strangers form ties, work together, and overcome an opposing force. Ok well maybe there are more inspiring things, but it’s a good start. There need to be territories and cities which are swarming with enemy that only a fool would enter. There are positions to be captured, chokepoints to be controlled, and transportation routes than need to be attacked. There are plenty of possibilities and at this point it’s up to the imagination of the development team.

People need a place to play, like a play…ground. No that sounds too juvenile so it should be called a…battleground! Sound familiar? It should because SWG was supposed to have something in the works a really long time ago. You thought I was going to say World of Warcraft didn’t you…ha! WoW actually does have a decent battleground system that people can just pop in, get there butts handed to them and grab some rewards. There needs to be an instanced area where people can throw down in addition to the regular cities and highways of the game.

PvPers demand rewards for their efforts. In the past I’ve seen everything from a random item they were carrying to part of their cash. Loot off a player body is a fun idea and decent direction to go, but I’m thinking a little different. Rankings are a great way to motivate players toward senseless violence for instance. Titles, special armor, and mounts are all proven ways to get people battling for the top spots.

Almost nothing is known about Player vs Player in Gods and Heroes yet other than a basic system will be in place, along with a special server at launch. What lies down the road for PvP, and will it all work out to the satisfaction of the masses? Only time will tell, so stay with us at Ten Ton Hammer to find out.
