You've heard the hype about Module 3 for the longest time:
Now
href="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=800">Module
3 is finally here. But is it any
good?
Module 3 is a massive content upgrade for which Turbine is not charging
subscribers. Nothing. Not one cent. Adding 40% to the content of any
game is huge, but when you consider the way all dungeons in DDO are
hand-crafted, it's even more impressive that Turbine went to all this
work and isn't trying to make money off of it.
PvP finally gives us something to do when we don't have time to quest,
and the
href="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=796">PvP
Leaderboard will make sure we know just how good we are. Auction
houses were overdue, but they sure will make selling items easier!
We're no longer stuck at Level 10 thanks to this new Module. We can
progress to level 12 in the all-new dungeons. With several new spells
and Feats, every class gets something new in Module 3. Plus,
Enhancements are extended and improved. And let's not forget all of the
new items to be found and the new vast open spaces the Demon Sands
brings to DDO.
It doesn't matter how much content Turbine adds to the game if they
don't do a good job a polishing it. With frequent miscues from Turbine
(warforged racial traits, 1750 Favor rewards, missing, +4 Enhancements,
and Weapon Alacrity), it sometimes seems that Turbine doesn't really
understand the Dungeons & Dragons system.
PvP is fun for some, but it's mostly a diversion from the fact that DDO
lacks enough content to warrant a monthly fee. Not only that, time
spent developing and (no doubt in the future) refining PvP takes away
from development resources that could produce the content we
desperately need. And don't even get me started on the jerks who will
stalk the PvP Leaderboard! And
href="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=806">Auction
houses went live broken and had to be taken down the day after the
update.
An increase in the level cap is great, but it will still only take a
month to reach Level 12. Levels fly by in DDO. New spells, Feats,
Enhancements, and items are great, but the content has to captivate us
long enough to pursue those new carrots dangling in front of us. The
storyline for Demons Sands has to be dynamite to make the grind
worthwhile.
What do you think of Module 3 so far?
