Planting a Seed

Seed finally hits the dirt.

This week’s comment content editorial is about the recent failure of a promising upstart MMO known as Seed. Seed was an open-ended roleplaying game that allowed players use the environment to do whatever they wanted, from politics to trading. Recently, Runestone Game Development (the creator of Seed) filed for bankruptcy and announces that Seed will be permanently closed. This begs to question, is there room in this industry for a non-combat orientated MMO? Our very own Aureal answers that question in this week’s editorial: Planting a Seed.

Conflict is the key to a good story and continuing conflict will keep a reader turning page after page to see what happens. In a game, the player is central to the plot; conflict is either resolved or ignited by their actions. This keeps the player sitting at his or her desk, continuing to finish that quest or vanquish that enemy.

Take a look at what makes a good online game at Planting a Seed.
