If you've done your fair share of crafting or if you've read my guide on crafting mastery items, then you already know how important it is to hang on to the mastery items you find while slaughtering monsters and brigands. But there's still one other aspect of LoTRO's crafting system that might throw you for a loop: single use recipes. These are recipes that you learn like any normal recipe, but once you craft the item they disappear from your crafting list forever (until you find another copy and learn it again). They'll stay in your crafting list until you use them, too, so if you think you'll want to make the item someday go ahead and learn the recipe so it stops taking up valuable space in your inventory or bank (being non-stackable right now). The only unfortunate thing is that you can't "queue up" a few of these recipes at once, so if you plan to make several copies of an item from one-use-only recipes, they're going to eat up bank space while you hoard them. This might seem like a bit of a hassle, but single-use recipes are used to make very powerful weapons and armor that are better than generic crafted items and many quested or dropped items.

There's also one other catch: single-use recipes require specific ingredients from rare and unique monsters. Each of them lists a unique ingredient with no hints as to where or what you might get it from, and it's up to you to track it down. Fortunately, the beta community has compiled a great list of almost all of the unique monsters which drop special items, what the special items are, and where you can find the monster. You can see it below (it's even sortable!). These items are even more sought-after than mastery items due to their rarity and how difficult they can be to obtain, so should you stumble across one that you don't need, make sure to give it to a friend or sell it on the AH. Vendoring these puppies is a big no-no. Your crafter friends would be sad.

Just in case you find one and you aren't sure what to do with it, there's a list below of the different professions that use each of these items and the single-use recipes they go to. These lists are probably another resource it wouldn't hurt to print out and take adventuring with you. Now go out there and get to killing! You have recipes to find and components to hunt down.
