Hour 23 of the Cleric epic camp: I suspect my toenails have grown.
Any gamer who's been playing MMOGs for a while likely has some memories of camping. No, not the kind of camping with s'mores and ghost stories, but the kind that keeps players parked in a certain spot working to get a rare drop or to spawn a rare mob. Camping certainly built community--you couldn't help but talk to your groupmates when you were sitting in the same place for hours on end. But camping seems to have fallen out of favor with gamers today, who consider it tedious and unnecessary. I have some fond memories of camps. They could be frustrating and long, but the satisfaction that came with finally scoring that drop you desperately needed to complete you epic or gain some other uber prize made them seem worth it in the end. I was a druid in EQ, and although the quest for the druid epic was easier and a lot less frustrating than some, it still involved some long camps.
