A big round of clap to Jeff Woleslagle, our rodeo clown in training for delivering those two gems. Mr. Woleslagle is in New York City today delving deep into something that many of you are going to love. I just can't tell you about it until tomorrow. I guess you'll just have to come back.
My question about why fishing is a part of MMOGs gots some interesting responses, which if you check the blog regularly you have already perused. For you slackers here are some nifty comments that you should have read.
Skorpious had this to say;
"I fish in WoW and will eventually get to 300. Some fish are used in potions and cooking that provide very valuable and desired buffs so they sell well. If ya aren't gonna buy gold ya gots to earn it somehow :) and fishing is just one more way to earn gold. Not to mention that as an alchemist it's more profitable to fish for ingredients than to buy them on the AH.
Virtual fishing isn't the most fun activity to say the least. Pretty mindless but it goes well with beer just like in real life. I do it in short batches, waiting on the dock for a boat or waiting for a group partner to make it to where I'm at. Occasionally I seek out certain spots that have a particular fish I'm after and actually spend a half hour or so just fishing. I drink, guild chat, talk on vent, and fish. It's not as much fun as attacking mobs (frostbolt, frostbolt, incinerate, cone of cold, loot) over and over again but it has it's place. Oh, and beating someone down with your fishing pole has a certain satisfaction as well. :D"
Wizzel Cogcarrier Wizzleton IV had given this some thought before;
"I posted on the same subject about a week ago. Basically I made the case for its implementation and improvement in future games and outlined how it would work in my "ideal" MMO, Ars Mechanica.
Fishing has been widely used as a sort of meditative break from slaying waves of mobs, fodder for player-run contests, and an opportunity for roleplay since the days of Ultima Online. I myself have often used fishing as a means of relaxation or venue for socializing in Everquest II. With graphical water settings turned all the way up, the scenery during a given expedition can be a spectacular distraction from the sheer tedium of mashing the âFâ key every few seconds..."
The thing that would make fishing more interesting for me is if I could float around virtually in a boat. Make it so!
I also received the usual dozen or so e-mails informing me that I was "ghey" or that fishing was "ghey" or some other drivel. I can't read half of it. I think the guys sending me those e-mails are the same guys who send out the v1agra and m0rgatege spam emails. Either that or they went to the same elementary school. Once again, only insults that are spelled correctly will be taken to heart. The rest will be returned and or posted here attached to your e-mail address so that our readers can ridicule and mail bomb you.
Make your mark. Mark your territory. Post a comment. If you are shy you can E-Mail me.
Every good guild needs a home. A home free of gold ads, secondary market farmers. Look no further than GuildPortal.com.
As always, thanks for visiting TenTonHammer.com,
