1.0 - Shadowknight Basics

This advice is brought to you by the fearsome Shadowknight,
Brokain of Kithicor!

Why choose Shadowknight?

The ability to lifetap, wear plate, cast spells, fight with sword, sword/shield, or 2H weapons, and the ability to summon limited pets all make for a versatile character. SK’s work well both in and out of group situations but excel as a solo class. Also, SK’s make great RP characters as the Fallen Paladins or Dark Knights that they are.

Can Shadowknights solo?

Absolutely. This actually is the SK’s strong point. The combination of being able to take the hits and give damage back in either spell or combat form, summon a pet to help out, and heal your self while damaging your foe during combat, make for one of the better solo classes in the game.

What is a Shadowknight's role in a group?

SK is a very versatile class. The main role of a SK in a group will usually be Main tank or Back Up tank. Their ability to give another group member a percentage of their armor class, a second dodge attempt using the SK’s evasion, and the ability to throw a lifetap ward on a character also lend them to help out with support as well as fight.

What's the best race for the Shadowknight?

The best race for a Shadowknight is arguable. As you attain the higher levels, intelligence becomes important as a higher intelligence means more
damage for your spells. As the armor, shield, and jewelry that is usually equipped will bolster your strength and stamina, intelligence is often overlooked. Dark elves make decent SK’s as do humans and Ogres. The benefit of an Ogre is the racial bonus they can choose that adds a permanent +5 to their intelligence, making up for the lower than average starting intelligence score. In the end though, such small differences on stats will make little to no difference.

How should I equip my Shadowknight?

Shadow Knights wear plate armor. There are a lot of good choices out there, but you are going to be better off using legendary or mastercrafted gear that boost your stength and intelligence stats. Most gear can be found through questing, but anything you cannot find through those means can easily be bought off of the broker.

For weapons, generally you will see a SK that tanks weilding a shield and 1-handed sword. For DPS or back up tanking, a 2-handed sword will yeild more damage. It's a good idea to have a set of each so that you may switch out as needed in a group or raid.
